I'm not an expert but I run high test Valero Top Tier gas and seem to get good overall gas mileage. 91 Octane but 10% ethanol.

I've noticed there's not a single response with a fuelly app signature....It's a great way to keep up with your mileage and easy to use.

    Mostly stuff I built.
Two trips to Hidden Falls off-road park from my house towing my crawler. Trip is 163 miles one way 326 miles round trip. Same weather conditions, same route, same traffic patterns, and loaded the same.

The construction on I-35 from Waco,TX to Temple, TX is atrocious so I take the back way.

US 84 from Mexia, TX to Gatesville, TX then TX 580 to Lampasas,TX and get on US 281 till I get into Marble Falls,TX.

Trip one on 87 octane fuel average of 12.7 mpg at 60-65 mph. Had to stop on the way home in McGregor,Tx for fuel.

Trip two on 93 octane fuel average of 15.5 mpg at 60-65 mph. Got fuel in Mexia, TX just before returning to the house.

The bottom line may not break even but more miles to a tank makes me happier. Feel like I'm getting more fore what I pay for.

Did you note wind direction and speed? I drive from Rockwall to Lampasas a lot on 281 for a good part. I can have a real nice tail wind coming and going or a headwind. Depends on weather fronts. Always hope to follow a front down and have wind turn south on return. Makes a big diff in MPGs especially with wind in Tx.. I don't tow my boat long enough distances to experiment with grades of gas and accurately measure. I would not make my fuel decision on 2 trips. To the people talking about running 85 there are 2 methods to measure octane. One results on a lower reading. 85 measured one way is 87 the other. One Is RM or research method not sure what other is called.

Like I said close same weather conditions. I am not basing my choice on just these 2 trips I make several trips a month to my property in northeast Texas and have noticed the same kind of results on those trips.

I've used 91 for like 5 tanks and felt no difference except for more $$. I'm back to 87.

I've found no difference between 87 and 91 octane. I commute 60 miles a day and I'm at 25,000 miles so I've done quite a bit of "testing". I'm fine with 87 but after a lifetime of running 2 stroke outboards and chainsaws, ethanol is my nemesis and the only non ethanol available here is 91 octane at about 45 cents more per gallon than 87. First world problems!

This doesn't apply to new vehicles anymore do to the location of the fuel pump.

Still a good way to burn up a fuel pump.

The in-tank style pumps depend on the gas to keep it "cool" so if your constantly running around with less than 1/4 tank it can get hot and decrease the life of the pump. At least that's what my mechanic told me.... Plus they're a bear to replace.

I'm sure I'll get burned as well but I can tell a difference and I've tested it quite a few times as I drive the exact same route 5 days a week. Between 87 and E15 I get 1 better mpg with E15..and it's about $.10/gallon cheaper so that's what I do!

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    Nice job searching.

Not where I am. They have ethanol. Use pure gas.org it can be useful.

87 or 88 ethanol free for me. If I run ethanol I get a strange miss fire around 1700 rpms on exceleration. Others have noted the same thing.

That is RON, research octane number.
    MON is motor octane number.
They are two seperate tests to determine octane.
The octane you see at the pump is derived from RON+MON/2.
Toyota tests with whatever fuel the EPA mandates. It used to be E0 91, no additives. IIRC, as of 2014, it is a combination of E10 87 and E0 91, with additives.

My second generation pinged at lower octane fuel so I always ran high test 90-93 octane. My TRD Pro runs fine on 87, there is no benefit I can see in higher octanes on this truck.
