Hehehe. Love this. Especially when it comes to what is needed to go off-road, what tires are the best, how many lights are needed to off-road, well we get the idea.

I understand what everyone says when they say “it’s a waste of money to use premium”. However, both my 2018 TRD-OR 6AT and my 2022 TRD-OR 6MT run better with premium vs regular.

Both trucks would “spark rattle” a bit at lower RPM’s and under a slight load (going up hill for example). Both trucks stopped doing that when using premium gas. Go ahead and come at me with this, all ye who have treated these statements like internal combustion engine grammar nazis in the past…those are the conditions and results from the two trucks I’ve owned. Don’t know what to tell you, that’s just what’s happened.

I also get 2 mpgs BETTER mileage with basically any premium…and 3-4 mpgs BETTER mileage when using Shell premium. Before people start with “it’s all the same gas”, I understand what you’re saying. I also firmly believe the branded additive packages make all the difference. My mileage results state the same. I only fill my truck a couple of times a month. If I’m spending <= $20 a month more and my truck runs better…ima spend that. Flame away!

He must be with big oil. Not that higher octane gasoline contains more oil, more oil isn't being sold as a result.

So if that happens again, just put in $1.00 worth, then end the sales transaction.
Restart pump sales again, this time using regular gas.

There is a gas station nearby that is also close to a driving-training facility. You can earn an F4 (I think ... not quite an F1) driving qualification on 600HP Dodge Chargers (they CLAIM they have automatic transmissions, but I would not ask for them). The gas station has pumps for "racing car only" fuel.

    Hmmmmm ...

I've been using Costco regular since I purchased my 2021 brand new. Premium is a waste of your $$

Mine runs like a bat out of hell with 93 octane, especially after my daily oil change.

I run straight moonshine in mine. Basically a corn mash powered F-22 at that point. Plus if I get pulled over for suspected DUI i can blame it on the car.

Mine pings pretty consistently at low RPM on 87. It gets a little better on 89 but doesn’t disappear. I haven’t tried 93 yet. I really enjoyed being at elevation for a week running 85, with no pinging whatsoever.

I’m not really worried about it (yet). My 2016 with 80k did it with and without a tune. I think they’re just noisy ass engines all around.

My 2007 has had regular since new... runs great. I throw a bottle of Techron in the tank every few fill ups... never had the "taco tick". Is it related? Who the hell knows. As far as the gas milage goes i've never checked it... don't drive enough care.

Toyota must of done something very different with their 3.5's in later years. I have a 2020 engine that runs just fine on 87...even better than my 4.7 tundra did. It's using the higher grade octane fuels that cause it to run the same, or worse the higher you go. We have at least 10% ethanol in all our grade fuels if that makes any difference.

Up here there is no ethanol if you get 94 chevron. I do not want that garbage in my fuel tank.
