    19-20 mpg? Impossible.

You added a bunch of unsprung weight, rolling resistance and you are lifted 6”. Can’t argue with physics.

nah, premium fuel does make a noticeable difference, especially with heavy loads. just not worth the price for most people

    I am tuned and running 93. I’m
A bit heavy too, about 400 pounds of extra weight plus E load skinny 33s and 2” lift. If I drive very conservatively, I can get stock MPGs.

The dude is lifted 6”, got 35s, and has got about 800 pounds of extra weight. Higher octane is great but it’s not magic. Physics man.

I run non-ethanol gas, but that is mostly because i hardly drive. I just started doing this, so i can report if i see any improvements.

You must never go below 20 or over 55, which is the only way you possibly could do what you say. Math is hard.

If you run inside air with the a/c on with my truck it builds up mold in the evaporator core box and blows fresh cow shit stank out the vents. Not good to breathe.

3/4 of the responses in this thread are incorrect. Probably yours. Not worth my time to get into arguments though.

I try to fill up when I get to a quarter of a tank. Filled up today with 87 Octane. About 15 gallons was $75 dollars. Pretty soon my fill up dollar amount will be a larger number than my Octane.

Question you should ask yourself why is my truck pinging. Its either crummy low octane fuel your using that isn't what its claimed to be, or something isn't right with the truck. Even with 87 octane i can not make my 3.5 ping under any condition. Your getting ripoff if you need to run premium all the time.

I had a gen1 tundra that use to tow an enclosed trailer with 2 sleds, plus one in the trucks bed to canada. I ran premium at times in that 4.7 v8 vs 87 octane just to see the difference....yeah there's more btu's in higher octane fuel pulling that load, but the actual mileage results were only minor gains using premium.

The higher the octane, the slower the burn. That’s why high compression engines need it, won’t go off just touching the hot spots in the combustion chamber, ie, pre ignition, ie, pinging.

    +1 on this.

Stock with 91 was meh, not worth it.
Tuned (not for 91) with 91 was not meh, and definitely worth it, as far as smoothing out everything. In terms of MPG improvement over 87, negligible to me.

Theres actually slightly less btus per gallon in premium fuel, it has more additives, more additives means less gasoline, less gasoline means less btus. General rule is the more refined a petroleum product is the less btus it has per unit of volume, that why diesel has more its much less refined.
