Got all my posts cut to height , notched for 4x12 beam , and predrilled for through bolts into beam as well as through bolts that go through the knife plate at the bottom

Have some 5/8" x 7" hex bolts through the knife plate connections to make sure everything is aligned until I get a chance to cut some more of the stainless redi rod bolts

The margins are pretty tight as far as aligning the knife plate bolt holes in the post and knife plate .

The bolts will be 5/8" and the holes in knife plates are 11/16" , so I only have 1/32" of play in any direction so measurements need to be pretty accurate .

This is a good trick for getting an accurate measurement for the height of the centre of the 11/16" hole above the base of the knife plate . Instead of trying to eyeball centre I stick an 11/16" forstner bit in the hole shank first as they are usually chamfered on the backside of the cutter head . You can then measure to the drill bit centre tip and it is perfectly centred

Nice work. I don’t see how you have the time to do all of this, especially by yourself. Seriously impressed each day.

I need to write that down about the Forster bit. Great tip!

I find that hard to believe. My god, I wish I lived near you to give you a hand and learn some of these techniques. The lumber prices are insane down in my neck of the woods. Turnkey on your building in my neighborhood would be $80k plus. Our codes must be extremely low compared to what you have to do. Our inspectors would ask why are you going to the extremes on this building. Those who can do, those who can’t...inspect.

    Please continue updating this thread.

I imagine their seismic requirements are much higher than Louisiana ;) Of course, you get offset by the higher wind requirements.

I'm not framer or carpenter, but spent plenty of time on construction sites, helping my dad with electrical installs. I was shocked when I was in the US, toured some residential construction sites, of the framing techniques, how the homes are put together. Not surprised how easily they come apart in storms.

beautiful craftsmanship on this project. How is this plate attached to the concrete post?
Were concrete pilings poured in place?
