After seeing the dedication in this build, I guess I just assumed you were going to build a soundproof room/box (I don't know how big the V3000 is) for it.

 

the V3000 canister is 30" round and 88" tall with an 18" HEPA filter that sticks out past the cannister

I laid out the bathroom to accommodate the dust collector , it was always going in there

I plan on putting sound insulation in the bathroom walls

 

I'm finishing up last of the back framing / drywall backing and blocking inside today . Putting my Rockwool Comfortboard baffles in the rafter bays above the timber rafters so I can install the blocking in those bays . Thought I would take a pic that better illustrates what they are doing

2" Rockwool Comfortboard compressed mineral wool cut to 14 1/2" to fit tightly in 16" on centre rafter framing acting as a baffle to provide continuous airspace above code required insulation for airflow from soffit to ridge vent

2" airspace above Comfortboard + 1 1/2" airspace provided by cross strapping . 7" High Density R-28 fibreglass batts install below R-8 Comfortboard for total rafter bay R-value of R-36

Comfortboard baffles screwed to rafter blocks with barbed Schluter washers and #9 x 3 1/8" GRK R4 screws

 

Between the insulation and the dust collector, no one in the workshop should hear any schart sounds out of the bathroom.

 

Now I’m wondering where the toilet drains to. New septic, or being pumped to an existing system?

Talked to a friend that has the mini gorilla, he’s about to cry twice. I’ll do that with the jointer, will be fun to upgrade that, not so much a dust collection system. Placing my order tomorrow, every thing is taking 6 weeks due to Covid.

 

Moved my extra timbers and some other assorted crap outside today to get ready to grind the slab and do the wiring and insulation

We had our first frost this morning and it focussed the mind on getting my building insulated and heating system up and running

 

Yeah , I would rather have more capability up front to allow for expansion later

 

Why are you grinding the slab? Just for flatness?

Somewhere out there my concrete finisher just felt a disturbance in The Force so I should point out there is not an issue with current appearance of slab or it's general flatness , especially because we used those aluminum L angle cast in screeds . The grinding / polishing is more to take this aluminum screed / polished concrete concept to it's conclusion because I have not done this combo on one of my client builds yet and I'm using this building as a test bed for a few things , the slab being one of them .

 

I did a polished concrete floor in a cowboy bar a few years ago and we inserted aluminum spurs into the concrete. Only problem was that we used 6061 and it was harder than the concrete which left a hump at every spur. Your angle is probably not hardened so you shouldn't have that problem.

 

Yeah , this angle grinds flush with the concrete with no issues . I know a couple local contractors that have used this system in high end ground and polished floors for about 10 years now . I've done polished floors before but this is the first time for me using the aluminum screeds

 

We're moving to the island in the new year, and not gonna lie, I'm really hoping we buy a place that you've worked on. Been following(lurking) a while now and damn! your attention to detail and thoroughness is incredible!
