Nanaimo/Parksville. Work is relocating and I'll be based in Lantzville and travelling to Uki a couple times per month.

Mid island is a nice area , and Ucluelet/Tofino area is awesome . I haven't built in either of those areas but been in them lots , have friends and family spread out from Victoria to Port Alberni and Tofino

This week was pretty low productivity on the shop but my windows arrived

I'm using NAFS compliant Plygem metal clad vinyl windows .

The exterior cladding of the windows is slate grey , my corrugated siding colour sample is left of the window , it's Weathered Zinc , and my roof colour in behind is Dark Green

After receiving the windows and getting a hard measurement on the frames I decided I wanted to drop my rough openings about 3/4" to lower the window bottom in relationship to where the workbench will flow into it in the window openings over the bench , so I needed to tear out the top of the two bottom plates of each window rough opening to replace them with 3/4" material . Unfortunately these window openings were nailed to the perimeter shearwall nailing schedule lol

"and you may ask yourself , are there enough nails in this piece ? and you may say to yourself , my god , what have I done ?"

none of the plates came out in less than about 4 pieces haha

So this is what I've been up to at the shop lately ~

I had a bit of a forced scheduling change , I was planning on grinding the concrete slab next , then installing my windows and starting the electrical rough in but during a meeting with my electrical contractor he was a bit concerned about voltage drop on my temporary service for the high draw , concrete grinding / polishing machine because we're running about 250' from the panel the temp service is tied into so we've decided to wait to grind the floor till after we have power hooked up at the shop itself .

I had left out the wall framing between the bathroom and the rest of the shop because it would be easier to grind the floor without that wall there but now that we're going to do the wiring first , that wall needs to be framed .

I wanted to make sure the bottom plate was secure so the doorway would be sturdy for the long haul plus I may hang heavy crap on this wall in the future so I used some subfloor adhesive to bond the pressure treated plate to the concrete and added a 6" wedge anchor on either side of the door rough opening .

Here I'm just making sure my layout for the door swing will miss front of toilet while also missing the dust collector I have drawn on the piece of plywood in the corner

Bolting this plate down is scarier than it sounds when you consider all the hydronic tubing running through the slab .

Experience has taught me to take a lot of pictures like this ~

Even with a pretty reliable picture like above , drilling into a slab that has hydronic tubing in it is always a dink-shrinker

I also went and picked up the old woodstove from the clients I had job before last , this stove came out of the house I renovated for them and they didn't want it so they gave it to me for my shop and were kind enough to keep it in a shed on their property till I got my shop dried in . Its a CSA approved Osburn Regent 1500

Wall all framed up and plywood applied

I also started boxing for the electrical , and here I installed 2 1/2" of XPS styrofoam (R-12) on the exterior side of where my 200A electrical panel will go .

Tomorrow I'll carry on boxing and next up I'm going to install the housewrap and windows

Just spent last 2 hours reading (yes, actually reading and not just skimming pics) this entire post. Understood about 10% of it, and that's generous. ha!

Extremely impressive. Can't wait to see the finished product.
