Preparing , preparing , you're always preparing . OZ-T's "Just build the damn shop already build ".

So I got a bit side-tracked , had to take care of a minor issue at my last client build yesterday and this morning but got back to the shop this afternoon

Got my kick ladders built and installed




Got the vanity box assembled , plunked in place but not installed yet

There will be a finished applied gable on this side and I'll add some solid wood edge banding to the case after I decide what species I'm going to use for trims



Hope to get the other 2 cabinet boxes assembled tomorrow and all three installed

 

Do you normally prefer frameless cabinets, or is this a function decision being for the shop and ease of fully accessing things inside the cabinet?

I’ve noticed you use imperial vs. metric. Is that common among Canadian builders, if so why?

 

I use both but mostly imperial . Residential construction is pretty much all still imperial based , commercial etc is mostly metric

 

Here's a simple guide to help people figure out what to use. I don't agree with a few of these, but it's close

We also see things like 473ml a lot.

 

I use metric when dealing with cabinet hardware, easy and accurate.

Had a guy once ask me how many 64ths are in a inch. Not sure metric would’ve helped that guy.

 

I had a carpenter's helper working for me , he wasn't a noob , had been doing it full time for 5 or 6 years for another builder , he asked me one day "around how many inches are there in 6 feet?"

 

Answer: All of them.

 

I thought he was joking at first. I was like "uh ...72" , he asked if I was the Rain Man or something

 

Metric is for people who can't do math.

I use imperial.

My life is hard due to no math.

Flow chart is flawed. For machining, metric hands down, though I rarely get the pleasure...

 

um yeah. But if it was logical we'd have a 500ml container as a nice round number. But we have to get 473ml because that's the same as 16 fl oz
It's like we are using metric, but not really
