    aaand we're back .... finally

Had to do client work the last few weekends , managed to get back in to my shop this weekend

Yesterday I spent most of the day cleaning up and re-organizing the shop

This morning I cut all the domino joinery in my lower cabinet components .

To construct my boxes I'm using 5x30 dominoes without glue for ease of alignment when I'm putting the pieces together and following up with #8x2" screws . I'm using no glue to allow me the flexibility to reconfigure these boxes in the future if I decide I want to

Managed to get 4 of the 7 lowers put together today (the short box is for the Kapex chopsaw)

As I haven't been in the shop much lately I was worried Darth Systainer might be getting lonely so I got him a companion .

    Tyrell the Owl .

I know what you're thinking , "he's artificial?" , well of course he is . "must be expensive" , very

Finished up putting together my lowers today , hope to get a start on cutting the domino joinery for my upper cases tomorrow

Back in the shop this weekend

Today I got all the domino joinery cut on my upper cabinet components.

For my mid panel fixed shelves and fixed gables I'm using the method I learned on Bent's Woodworking on Youtube where you clamp one of your elements to be joined to the other on the line where you intend to "roll up" the piece into . You then use the edge of the shelf as a fence to cut the dominoes in the panel and reference the panel with the domino base to cut the dominoes into the shelf . No fence flips or readjusting / recalculating the fence offsets

On it's side on the assembly table but dry fit was successful

Tomorrow I'll start assembling my uppers

Cut the back panels for all my uppers this morning then started assembling my uppers. (Standing on right in pic)

All my uppers are 908mm (35" +/-) wide and have a common fixed shelf near the top approx 18" down. The first 2 uppers from the left are open with full width shelves . The 3rd , 4th and 5th are the Festibule. The bottom section of those 908mm wide cabinets have a fixed centre gable that allows for the width to store systainers on either side on adjustable shelves.

As I started assembling the first of the Festibule uppers with the fixed centre gable I realized I had made a mistake yesterday and cut the top centre gable domino mortises in the uppermost panel at the top of the case instead of the common upper fixed shelf.

I figured out I could swap the upper case top with the fixed shelf as they are the same length but as the domino mortises are at slightly different offsets I needed to patch the domino mortises so I could re-cut them

To do that I needed to cut some of my 5x30 dominos down to 15mm to fill the mortise without sticking proud of the shelf end so I came up with this contraption so as not to lop off any body parts I might want later

Worked well , I'll re-cut those mortises later this week and get back to assembling the rest of my uppers

Peter, please, you've got to include pictures of the timber framing inside the shop more often!

Now I need to get a Festool collection started AND switch to metric measurements. Metric is soooooooo much easier to calculate rather than 4" 9/16 + 5" 17/64. Imperial seems just wrong now.
Love your shop...I am in Spokane WA area so you could swing down and build me one too!

Got my last 2 uppers assembled today so all the boxes are built and all the kick space ladder material is all precut and ready for assembly . I just need to cut some strips to crib up the uppers off the lower countertop by about 100mm , and I can start installing the cabinets finally

Got the plinth built and installed for the upper boxes to the left of the chop saw .

I added 2 1/4" access holes in each plinth crossmember as I have an idea I may run some wire and/or a vacuum hose through there later

Got the uppers to the left of chop saw up on to the plinth which wasn't super easy by myself . The plugs are cut out where applicable with box extensions added and the cover plates back on . Tomorrow i can gang all these boxes together and screw them to the wall then start working on the last couple uppers above and to the right of the chop saw

Today I pulled back out the chop saw lower to deal with my under slab dust collection pipe connection I ignored previously as I hadn't fully figured out how I was going to offset my pipe coming out of the slab roughly 2" sideways in 4 1/2" of kick height

In hindsight , I should have installed the under slab dust collection pipe 2 1/2" toward the centre of the building about 3 years ago , I did not prepare enough lol

Turns out 4" ABS plumbing fitting hubs fit perfectly on 4" Rigid PVC electrical conduit , who knew ?

I had to hack down the PVC conduit where it comes out of the slab so only 1" was protruding and cut the ABS fitting hub down to a matching 1" in length , use a back to back ABS street 45 and regular 45 , plus carve out the underside and backs of the cabinet gables to make it fit but after 5 or 6 tries I managed to get it all to fit

The ABS will transition to a 4" metal duct for the rest of the ductwork

All the boxes in their place , mostly ganged together , almost screwed to the wall

    you get the picture
