I can do a little digging and see if I can come up with the figure for the price differences on a 2nd gen between 2wd and 4wd. Kind of apples to oranges for a comparison but would give an idea. I'm thinking the difference is probably near your cost posted.

I would suggest you get a Scan Guage II, it will give you real time Water Temp, and Trans Temp(Needs Programming) and just about anything else you can think of. Plus it will scan for codes and issues. It just plugs into your OBD Port.

Yup the fill is 90341-18060 (fill washer is 12157-10010) and the drain is 90341-24016 (drain washer is 90430-24003, the copper ones). Let me know if you need any other part numbers, I have pretty much every OEM # for the build. I need to get around to cleaning up my spreadsheet list and just post all of it here.

I would suggest get a scan gauge. I had one on my tacoma and its great and will display A/T temp. I wouldnt trust the OEM A/T light.

Yup ended up picking up a scangauge II, still getting it calibrated but it’s pretty sweet. I found a link to an x-gauge for the trans temp, and I * think * I found the right one, but it’s reading ~150-160 warmed up which feels a little low, so I’m not sure if I have the right readings from the ECU

One of the codes reads at the pan and the other by the trans cooler (IIRC). I know one reads at the pan. That is about right for a warmed up engine. It won’t even open up to the cooler until 155F. Go roll up some hills with TC locked up in 4th then you will see it climb. I have been a little up over 220. Makes a little nervous but that was towing and loaded down in the summer.

That's good to know, I definitely haven't had the truck in any strenuous situation trans wise since getting it, so I'll have to keep an eye on it next time I'm in the mountains.

Ever since getting the lockouts installed I haven't been super happy with the aesthetic of the front wheels without the hub cap. After doing some research on OEM stuff, Toyota did offer an alternative hub cap with the cutout for the lockout on some of the earlier year stock wheels, but by the time the starfish wheels were offered as a "premium" 16" option, manual locking hubs were no longer a factory option (as far as I can tell), so it wouldn't make sense for Toyota to produce them. That left me SOL for finding a premade option.

I started a side quest of designing and 3D printing my own caps, and just finished them up today. They aren't perfect, but I'm really happy with how they came out. Started with a silver PLA filament and dialed in the contours and dimensions of the main face plate, then did some measurements on the old hub cab to get the retaining clips as close as I could. To get a clean finish, I used bondo spot glazing putty and sanded smooth before primer+paint+clear. I printed the clips and face plate separately, then super glued them on, and used the internal metal ring from the old caps. To my surprise, they actually fit really well (a bit snug, but I'd rather that than too loose). I don't think I've seen someone else come up with a solution for this style OEM wheel, but curious to know if I missed anything. I'd be happy to post the STLs if there is any interest.

I am pretty sure I have some OEM if you want them, but those look great!

Really? I’m curious what they look like! All the diagrams I’ve seen haven’t had the star center cap with the lockout cutout. But given I already printed these I guess I’m all set haha. It seems like Type A & C in this diagram would be the only ones to work with the lockouts, with the starfish cap being type F here

Ah ok sweet, but yeah that style would only work with some of the earlier wheels Toyota offered like the ones below. Unfortunately on the star wheels the entire lug nut is inside the center cap area vs. split in half like this style, so it's a significantly larger cap. Thanks for digging it out though, I know those are a bit difficult to source these days.

Picked up a ScanGauge II which has been very helpful for keeping an eye on things especially my transmission temp as I'm breaking in the A340F. There's lots of info out there on mounting solutions, but I came across this one, and figured I could pretty easily design and print one myself. I completed it today, and it actually works great. I mirrored the shape and cutouts on the stock ash tray, so now this thing basically clicks into place like the tray does (the etsy version seems to just be a flat piece?). Anyway, I'll probably get around to posting the STL files for this as well as my hub caps. I like how you can route the OBD II cables right behind the ashtray and out the back, makes for a really clean solution that's not right in your face.
