Schnenbly Hill road, Sedona - If you are in Arizona on your way to the grand canyon.... this is a great road to get on and drive all the way through... it drops you closer to Flagstaff. There are some incredible views up there. I did it on my pre-runner no problem what so ever. Maybe it is more challenging if the ground was wet. Here is my truck taking a break. You will bump in to many jeeps on the way up.

My tires are still red from the color of the dirt in the area.. pretty cool

Here is one from our June trip to Death Valley... this road is marked as a 4wd road but the pre-runner was very capable. Saline Valley (in death valley) its a freaking cool place to visit and experience. There are some scary sections on the way up and I am glad I did not get stuck. I was dragging my bed in some of the water fall drops in steele pass.

Cool pics man. Does your Prerunner have a locker?

I have been wanting to get back to Death Valley and try some trails, I never know what can actually be done in 2WD though. Only real "off roading" i did there was Ubehebe Crater to Racetrack, and that wasn't really complicated, just annoyingly bumpy for 25 or so miles.

I need to get out more

No lockers so far but I do want to get them. In terms of priorities, with my experience so far is the following:

    1. Lift 2 or 3 inches
1.5 Get some good tires. KOs 285s have done it for me, make a world of difference.. They are great in the California, New Mexico and Arizona desert trails... not sure about wet stuff but we dont get much rain or snow here...
    2. Rock sliders... I have used mine a couple of times on the off roads.. get them
    3. HAM Radio... if you go deep get some... I wish I had a HAM last time we went to Death Valley as some of our friends got lost.. i mean really lost
    4. Navigational skills.. Death by GPS is real.... learn to read maps and know your maps ..
    5. Do not press on the Gas Pedal when stuck unless you have a friend to get you unstuck
    6. I am still learning so.. 1-5 are a work in progress...

    Recommend...

    - KM's not KO's
    - buy a 'world capable phone' i have htc touch pro 2, and htc A9 both unlocked with several sim cards, even in mexico, i have never been without service for calls are data
    - always have a credit card! There is almost no place in north america, if you have a phone that can use all bands that you can not use "america roaming network" its a government required emergency network. Cost about $20 to make a call and need credit card!
    - a good cb radio, like a galaxy with a good linear amp will get you excellent range
    - your right about wasting gas pressing the pedal while hopelessly stuck, but if you are alone IN A PRERUNNER ALWAYS HAVE GOOD OFFROAD TIRE CHAINS! I have baried my truck so deep there was differetial drag ruts in the mud and could hardly open my door, and chains got me out. YES i have killed my rear ABS sensors before with chains... but i got home :) make sure the are offroad chains, real metal link chains, NOT snow cable tire chains! Those will pop and not only leave you stranded, but with a really big hole in your truck bed!
    - WORST CASE SENARIO and i dont recommend, but in emergency i had to do this... use ratchet straps, put 1 end through a hole in the rim and around the tire, then run it through the ratchet, with the ratchet placed on the tire tread and make it as tight as you can! So the ratchet basically acts as one big a$$ cleet on your tire tread. IT WILL get you out and home, but it WILL scratch the you know what out of your wheels!
    - if you are going to go offroad in a prerunner, make sure its 2005-2008 because of rear diff

this is what i mean about a 'world' cell phone. iphones are pretty cute! think my baby girl had a barbie phone when she was 6-7 years old back about 20 some odd years ago! see the pic! this is htc a9 sprint spcs specs. when you buy a phone, forget that it looks pretty, read the specs! see how it can operate ON ALL CARRIER'S BANDS!!!!!! that makes a good phone! also its lighter, faster and has more features than any iphone! if your really worried buy an OLD, LIKE PRE YEAR 2000 SPRINT PHONE THAT CAN USE ANALOGUE BANDS! THE CALL QUALITY SUCKS! BUT EVERY INCH OF USA SOIL HAS ANALOGUE SERVICE! I KEEP A SANYO 5300 FLIP PHONE ACTIVE FOR THAY REASON!

There are definitely better things to do in death valley than driving those long washboard roads. There is steele pass, hunter mountain road, and the infamous Lippincott rd, on this last one they tell me going down does not require 4wd but I dont know for sure. The hotsprings in salene are super cool and the Eureka Dunes are something to experience.

Got the leaf springs replaced on Thursday and while there, saw this guy....not a Prerunner, but pretty sharp.

Because they have a real limited slip (locking differential) after that Toyota uses the brakes to control wheel spin.
