I was in the same boat as Johnnie, when I bought my truck I never even thought I was going to get into offroading. I bought an 04 D-Cab Prerunner TRD Offroad w/locker. Then my friend took me offroading and that was the most fun I've ever had driving. I thought that I would get stuck so I bought a recovery strap but never used it once. The terrain isn't anything extreme but I did have to use the locker a few times to get over some hills and rocks. This was when my truck was almost stock except for a crappy Daystar 1.25 inch spacer in the front and my bald Rugged Fails. Can't wait to test my new gear.

no pics either yet... i had a 4x4 GMC Sonoma before I bought my Taco Prerunner and the only place I have any kind of trouble is ice. the 4x4 was nice to go up hills in town, but other than that, my 2WD goes anywhere (probably more places thanks to the TRD) that my last truck did. Prerunners are just plain cool. I mean, just look at trophy trucks... anyhow, stoaked on this thread. GO PRERUNNERS! WOOT

Fuck that. I'm rarely ever serious. That picture of the Black 04 of KumaWRX is fucking sweet.

i mean prerunners and 4x4s are worlds apart for purpose. But i can guarantee no matter what brand truck, most off road capacity is do-able in 4x2, its just easier with 4x4. aside from rock crawling (which is boring to me). you take any of these trucks over rough ground at 50mph and you can cook an egg on your shocks. once you put 4 link and long travel, then it gets fun. i personally like prerunners because you can lift the front end and not worry about ripping cvs. =)
