Yeah I saw ur post I was going by ur hole to cut mine but some thing went wrong and I cut a little to much to the left but nothing a little welding won't fix

 

Did you have to trim the plastic body of the shifter assembly?

 

Any tips for removing the transmission and installing the new one? Auto trans’ are the only thing I haven’t done before. I’m just up the road in EDH, Would love to pick your brain about the process.

 

I ended up finding this and swapped the shifter into the FJ base plate. Will see how it ends up lining up.

Good find! Removing the trans was honestly the hardest part and I didn’t do it. I had a heavy duty mechanic do it. Need to remove the starter to access the flex plate bolts. No way my pre-arthritis hands were getting that done

 

where did you get it done at? Did you prep the trans tunnel so the xfer shifter could be installed?

 

Anyone have PN’s for the front drive shaft u joints? Preferably greaseable. Rear driveshaft was bought second hand and rebuilt prior to purchase, looking to freshen up the front before install.

 

Interesting my t case came without a shifter, wonder how this will work

 

I’ll let you know when I install mine. I saw a picture somewhere, Trying to track it down, that it comes up through the coin slot without fab.

 

Sweet. I sent an email to trail gear asking for a pic and what they mean with modification to the shift console. I assume they mean cut through the coin slot but don’t want to have to cut the plastic on the gear selector

 

Sorry, it’s in the instructions.

says to modify the coin slot a little bit, but I’ll see if I can spin the shifter, since it’s threaded, and finagle it into place. If not I’m going to find a way to secure the RST leather boot I have to cover the cuts.

You will have to cut the shifter console. It’s really not a big deal. If you look in my pic above you can see the left threaded hold for the shifter but the right is missing.

 

Complete front end pretty cheap.

 

@05Taco4x4 did your speedo keep working after doing this swap or was there anything involved with that?

 

Have to transfer sensor from 2wd trans to transfer case
