2005 Tacoma PreRunner TRD, 2” lift, 265/75/R16 with 212,000. Person is asking $9500 or OBO.

    My concerns:
Oversized rise may have damaged suspension.
    Drive shaft replaced
    Cylinder head repaired
Needs tires soon, will replace with 245/75r16

It looks and drives good, new paint in 2017. Low speed turns are a little hard but that’s because of oversized tires I think. Body has a couple of minor dings. I ran a code checker on it, no codes displaying. Vehicle has has three drivers all from same family.

Just looking for opinions, going to offer $8500. Will try and get a courtesy check by my mechanic. Is there any other concerns or items I should be concerned with?

I am/was the owner of 2001 Prerunner that my boy wreaked.

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards,

    Kevin

Oversized tires do not damage the suspension. They will rapidly wear out wheel bearings if the tires are heavy enough. That truck with a 2" lift there's no way the tires are big enough to damage the suspension or the wheel bearings.

If they lifted it 2" with spacers then you'll want to see if they lowered the bump stops. If they didn't lower the bump stops the front struts will fail a lot quicker.

Look at the frame mounts for the engine, make sure they haven't collapsed, it's a known problem on 2005's and early 2006's.

There's no way tires that small will affect low speed turns, there's an issue there. Mine has 37" tires and I can turn the steering wheel with 1 severely arthritic finger.

Being a 2005 with the cylinder head repaired is a good thing, it gets rid of any concern IMO.

Prices vary depending on the area the truck is in.

Offer 1k less in cash. Those 245s are gonna look itty bitty on there.

So a couple of announcements, I did buy the 2005 Prerunner for $8500 and the original tire size from factory was 265/70/16, currently has 265/75/16. The issue I thought I might have was tire rubbing on the upper control arm I believe. My hope is going back to factory sized tires, 265/70/16’s, will eliminate the issue. Had truck looked at by mechanic and his words were I got great deal. Some minor things I need to get fixed but nothing critical.

Observation, my 2001 Prerunner Access Cab 4 cylinder was to me more nimble. The 2005 Prerunner Double Cab seems to be more stiff and little less agile. 2001 I’m sure was a lot lighter than the 2005. I realize I haven’t had it long enough and there is a period of adjustment but was wondering if others had a similar opinion. Just curious.

I’m happy to get back into an updated Prerunner. Sold the wreaked one on FB Marketplace. What a feeding frenzy that was. Posted it 7PM, not thinking it would do anything because of the damage, sold by 10:30PM. Must have had 50 people messaging me, what show.

    Thanks for your time.
