So today my cheap, used, little 2wd Prerunner is going to face total white out conditions, high winds and up to 30cm of snow.......should be fun!

She is equipped with 2 studded snow tires on the rear (one was on the truck when I bought it the other is a new one) ,and 2 used all terrains on the front. I also tossed 4 concrete post blocks in the back for a little bit of weight.

Lets see if she will make it to work.........

This is not a good tire combo set up mixing treads in slippery weather. Drive slowly when you or if you ever reach plowed roads. " She" may require help from a " he" in 4 wd. I would keep it garaged until the plows go by. It's not the foot of snow on the level, it's the drifts that will get you stuck. Follow the plows though and you maybe fine.

7" of snow. Take your time. You'll be fine.

uh... 30 cm is closer to a foot.

OP using concrete blocks for weight is not a good idea. You're using them because conditions suck and you're at a higher likelihood of a crash. Those things can turn into window-smashing, head-crushing projectiles if you take a run into a ditch/bank/vehicle/pole front end first. Unless you can securely tie down the blocks, opt for bags of sand or cement or that kind of stuff if you can.

Go have fun in the snow. With studded rear tires and a little common sense you're better equipped than most.

Made it in......no problem. Pushed through snow drifts up to and just past the bumper without issue......you just have to either carry enough speed to make it all the way through or go slow enough to stop and back up a couple of times in the deep stuff.

While not the idea tire setup I'll make it through what is left of winter. Its been about 15 years since I last drove a rear wheel drive in the winter and that was an old school BMW 5 series with no ABS or traction aids. A little bit of push in the front end is fine.

Strapped down inside a 2X4 frame within the wheel wells with a tire(off the rim) between the cab side of the bed.

Good point. Agree. Unfortunately, most grab anything and throw it in. Investigated a rollover accident of a truck that had "free weight" floating around in the back. Fortunately it was in a wooded area. Would not believe how far some of the "trash" was thrown. The occupants were lucky.
