Im still eligible for another 30 days to sign up for my Toyota dealer's "Preserve and Protect" package.

    1) Paint Protection
    2) Fabric & Leather / Vinyl Protection
    3) Sound Shield
    4) Rust Protection

Each package is $499 individually or $1300 for the whole get-up. Was wondering if these are worth it or if its a gimmick?

I deal with Paint Protection film and it does a good job if you want it. Protects against alot of debris and stuff from offroading/daily-driving, but downsides is, it may look crappy after awhile IF it is not maintained.

I wouldn't bother with the Fabric/Leather/Vinyl Protection. Can't chime in on the rest.

Wet Okoles and WeatherTechs plus wash and wax. Much cheaper and looks much better.

    What kind of rust protection?

I had mine "electronically" rustproofed. Cost around $500 but it does give me peace of mind, considering the fact that I drive in coastal areas most of the time. Some say that it does nothing, some say that it's better than undercoating, but idk. I got it mainly for the 10 year warranty for rust though.

Not worth it IMHO. Selling stuff like this is where dealers make their money. They get huge margins on it.

Its not a film though. They sell a Paint Sealant/coating. Nothing more durable than having a consistent coat of wax on there.

I got the interior protection and rust proofing for $329 total. The thing i like about the rust proofing is they said if I bring it back in 7 years they will redo the rust proof for free and every 3 years after that.

They put this little box thing in the engine bay that sends a negative electric current throughout the truck and somehow the current makes the rust grow on an "anode" instead of on the frame, axle, etc. Like I said though, I got this mainly for the warranty, so say 5 years down the road the dealer can't give me BS if I start rusting badly. (10 year rust warranty)

    A pic of the box:

I have seen those used in bridges and other things not on trucks though but yeah the corrosion is attracted to that devise vs the frame

I'll tell you one thing... DO NOT PAY FOR TOYOTA'S PAINT PROTECTION!!! It's crap, trust me! I work in a bodyshop, we do all of Toyota's warranty work, and even apply their "paint protection". It's a 6-ounce bottle of hand-applied liquid hardwax. In our case, it's applied by a guy who really has no idea what he's doing (yeah, true story!!!).

You're better off buying a can of your favourite wax, and applying it yourself. Better yet, go to a good auto detailer, and get the car polished, and waxed. It will cost you the same, and you'll actually get some real benefit from it.
