Self healing paint is more marketing than actual technology. You can get it to sort of work in laboratory conditions but real-world a scratch will not fix itself. I've seen technical presentations on self healing coatings for a dozen years and its all the same flawed concept. (*Drops mic* -- people relieved my awkward rant is over)

Lexus supposedly has this technology. It works but they shouldn't use "self" in the name since you can fix a scratch with a hair dryer or heat gun on low settings. I've fixed scratches on my car with a heat gun in low settings.

So it does heal but you have to do the work...

Lol I know, just messing with you. People put too much trust in a title or label. I know stupid doctors and brilliant landscapers.

Lol, not gonna argue something I only read and don't have extensive knowledge on. But most of my detailing friends recommend not touching the paint for at least 30-90 days before adding a wax, sealant, paint correction, lining up with what I've read.

I once met a landscaper who drove a Toyota pickup truck. A little older white guy who was also a lion of Judah/rastafari. He taught me through action how not to sweat the small stuff. It was nice to see it in action instead of reading about it. It was always such a pleasure to see him pull up to my neighbors house.

Agreed. Not new tech at all, and It is definitely not self healing, there is no such witchcraft. But it is more durable to damage, and easier to perform corrections than standard clears.
The point was to dispel his idea that Toyota is using shit products on on their cars.

Paint correction is removing the contaminants (rail dust, etc.) and imprefections in the paint/clearcoat (swirls, marring, orange peel). Most do the iron-x route, claybar, then either hand polish or use a DA, etc.

At that point you then pick something to protect the finish from UV rays, swirls, contaminents, etc. by adding either a wax, sealant or ceramic type product or both, etc. (each has their own unique qualities and attributes, wax deeper shine, sealant lasting longer, ceramic lasting extremely long and more durable, etc.)

Can you please start your own thread where you just write whatever you think of? I could make it my homepage.
99% of whats written on Tacomaworld is utter nonsense, but not you, not you my friend.
