Not so sure. Prestone is after market so second coolant change interval takes place. "5 years or 50K miles for Toyota branded and 5 years or 150K miles for Prestone."

The real fun is slapping the cap off when the engine is warm.

Hey guys I'm new at this, but tired of all the "Yes this coolant is good for all cars" from an auto part store.
I'm replacing my thermostat and a coolant flush. Here's an alternative coolant from a very reputable brand.

What you want to see on the jug is "Phosphated Hybrid Organic Acid Technology" (HOAT)like is displayed under the coolant name, so this stuff is OK.

i have found the red coolant from Toyota to be exceptional even if abused and ignored. My exGF 95.5 Tacoma had its original red coolant in for 280K miles and the original radiator. Never a problem And yes I made her change it to fresh red. I put it in my 1997 Jeep 4.0. Its the only coolant I will use.

I wonder how Prestone can claim on their jugs "can be used with any color antifreeze" when mixing the Toyota (HOAT) with the Prestone (OAT) shouldn't be mixed?

This was always a hot topic in the Land Cruiser forum as well. We have many more miles, usually in way worse conditions, with much more abuse than a 2nd gen Tacoma has seen. It has become obvious that with a good flush, Prestone green performs just as well as the overpriced Toyota stuff, it's cheaper and it's easier to get in an emergency. I'll flush mine GOOD this spring and it'll be replaced with Prestone full concentration mixed with distilled water at a 40/60 (C/W) ratio. Where people screw up is not flushing it well enough and mixing different types which builds a nasty gray sludge that clogs radiators, coolant ports in blocks/heads, and ruins H2O pump bearings. Flush GOOD then go to green.

I'm using SuperTech in all my Toyota products. There is nothing wrong with universal coolants as long as you use coolant from a reputable manufacturer and follow their directions. I've always used universal coolant on my vehicles, since the first time I flushed a motor, in the mid 80's. I'm baffled why so many Toyota owners insist on OEM coolant - they don't insist on OEM tires, OEM motor oil, OEM brakes, OEM shocks, etc...

only thing that bothers me about the PENTOFROST a4 is that their description info says not to mix with other brands of coolant not sure if that would be an issue mixing it with the Toyota SLLC since it basically the same composition. could probably call pentosin to find out about mixing, I plan on just a drain refill, not a full flush refill.

It also says the following on the container:

Pentofrost A4 is mixable with all phosphated OAT’s.
    Meets ASTM D-3306.

the ASTM D3306 spec meets the American standard for Japanese vehicles, but the Japanese specs are JASO,M325,JIS,K2234 these specs mean that its safe for the water pump/rubber seals on Japanese cars which aren't listed in the PDF, but I could contact Pentosin easily to find out if it meets any of those Specs if did then I wouldn't have any issues using it.

My 2005 Tacoma SR5 is due for a coolant flush and serpentine belt. How difficult is a coolant flush? Is the thermostat easy to reach?
