posted in the SD thread a while back .. I just outfitted my Taco with the same bed rack from AP but didn't go with the ARB tent ..

also talked to a body guy about that paint job. he said they usually lay down a template and shoot satin clear over the OEM paint. looks decent, but you'll shoot yourself in the foot after trying to wax it the first time

How do you like the rack so far? I have that same tent but mounted on a Thule Xsporter rack. I considered the AP rack but wanted something adjustable.

the AP rack is pretty nice - I use it for an RTT, just not ARB brand

the bolt-together design is great for shipping but not much else. The fit is so tight that you can't powdercoat or paint the frame completely before assembly, so I had rust show up after about 2 weeks in sunny SoCal. I ended up getting the rack welded together and the bolt holes filled, now it's back to get re-powdercoated. I would recommend welding it together from the start.

Fitment on the truck is perfect. The plates that sit on the bed rail are contoured perfectly and the length is about maxed out with the little bed kick-in near the tailgate side. Install hardware supplied is just 3 bolts with square nuts that slide in the utility track - I upgraded this using the N-Fab tire carrier install kit, as well as some T-Nuts from Fastenal

I have heard the argument every which way .. above the cab, below the cab, level with the cab, adjustable vs rigid, yadda yadda yadda .. I think, like most mods, it depends on the modder.

I wanted a rack system that would be sturdy enough to hold mt RTT and two people, but not something that would interfere with loading cargo. I looked at heavy duty and industrial truck toppers that supported roof racks first. Most were too expensive, and I didn't like the idea of crawling to the back of my topper for something that's by the cab. So I settled on the open-rack design pretty quickly.

Adjustable wasn't a concern for me so I went with the simpler, cheaper, sturdier design of a fixed rack.

In my opinion, the height of this rack is perfect. Sitting below the cab a bit makes the RTT stick out less when driving. I get very little wind noise or resistance, and I can still pack my bed high with cargo and full size spare. It's high enough that if you really wanted to mount forward facing lights something could easily be fabricated or bolted on to make light tabs sit above the cab.

It's been on the market for 4-6 weeks already. I'm sure they are trying to get a ridiculous dealer markup on that XPLORE package...

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I don't see what makes that truck worth 56k at all.
