hey guys was thinking about changing out the water pump, thermostat, and while I am there the pulleys including the tensioner pulley. The belt has been changed about 17k miles ago and i have 115000 miles on the the truck now. Just as a preventative thing, does that sound about right or is it just a waste?

I have 214k miles on mine and all the stuff u mentioned i have the originals still(besides the drive belt). I replaced the alternator and starter at 175k. An alternator is a good thing to replace for preventative maint. Theyll leave you stranded when they finally crap out

Edited to add: next time i go back to get the 225k maint, ill be getting a water pump and thermostat. Id say its a waste at 115k. It might even be early at 225k, but then again, its called preventative maint for a reason

No need to do work for no reason. I wouldn't replace those items unless needed. Do the pump with the timing chain at 200k-250k.

Also sooo not trying to be a grammar cop but the word is preventive.

water pump will tell you when it has gone bad by most likely leaving a small puddle under the truck.

When the belt was changed, all the pulleys (tensioner, water pump, alternator, PS, and 3 idler) should have been checked for looseness and grinding. The tensioner pulley assembly need not be replaced; the bearing is easily swapped out. At about 120K, I replaced the belt, coolant, hoses, and thermostat. The belt and hoses looked good and I've kept them as backups. They are so cheap, to me they are worth replacing for the peace of mind.
