As always the feedback from here is much appreciated. Posted yesterday wondering what the clunk in my manual trans clutching in was. Did some further research on wiring the third brake light on my truck cap and found everything I needed here (green/red positive, white/black ground if anyone plans on doing it).

Now I got a new question, I’ve seen the rust holes some of these 2nd gen frames get, and it seems mine is beginning to start. I dealt with 4 frame patches on my 2002 wrangler I sold removing huge rot each time. I’d prefer not to have to do that down the line with this truck :)

I do have a whole POR15 kit I was gonna use on said Jeep, degreaser/etch/paint and a few cans of it, is it recommended I sand this first or go right over it? It is called paint over rust I guess. Or is there another method people prefer here? I’ll probably fluid film it this winter or at the very least get a car wash package that blasts the underside of it. Thanks all

Any suggestions? I bought the vehicle certified used. From what I understand, Toyota dealers can’t certify a vehicle unless any recalls/service campaigns open are taken care of, doesn’t really look like mine was

Shows no mention of anything done to the frame. I guess the vehicle wasn’t affected by the current service campaign out there. Interesting that it’s only certain trucks out of the years I guess?

First step: Take the truck to a dealer and have them inspect the frame. If it qualifies for any of the rust prevention campaigns, they will coat it, then extend the warranty on your frame to 12 years from the first in-service date. If you don't get it inspected though, you may be SOL down the road if it rusts out.

Second step: Ask the dealer if you doing any kind of work on the frame will void the extended warranty.

From the pictures/photos: This is what I call a poor or bad design, being that the slots aren't completely filled in with weld and the formed lip going up allows moisture to be trapped in the lower part of the frame rail. Moisture means rust where ever road chemicals are used and don't forget coastal areas, sea/ocean water, and humidity.

Solid advice, just need to find the time. Selling dealer is an hour away and I would assume a local dealer would care less if my vehicle didn’t qualify for the campaign, however Toyota figured out who qualifies.
Poor design I agree, I couldn’t really do anything about the rust that forms in between. I’m no stranger to rust after having 4 sections of a wrangler frame cut out and replaced. Was just hoping to avoid with a newer vehicle, although I knew about this kind of stuff on Tacomas from prior research

You do not have to go to the selling dealership for the inspection. Any dealer can do it.

What year is yours? The frame recall campaign extended the warranty fifteen years from the first date of use from what I understand.

Get a dealer to inspect it; if it passes they usually spray it with a wax to slow the corrosion. If it fails, you get a new frame on their dime, albeit you may have to pay for some hardware and misc parts.

Fluid film is good, look into woolwax as well. Made from the same stuff but it’s formulated to smell less, and be thicker to resist road spray a bit better than fluid film.
