That's a bummer man. Good ol Tacoma keeps on giving.

Playing devils advocate here, if the baddies aren't 211 in progress or still hanging around to get a description, whats a cop gonna do in person they can't over the phone?

Nah, Tacoma and most of urban Pierce country has been shitty for years.

Lotta depts/agencies, esp with COVID, have adopted a no-show policy for minor property crimes like vehicle smash and grabs because there's really nothing for the PD to do once they get there other than agree your window got busted.

Everything else info wise is the same online as it would be in person on a clipboard.

Ummm.... NO crime is minor, and yes, there is a lot for them to do.

If the theft takes place in California, unless a body is attached forget about a police responsibility.
The idiots here voted to essentially decriminalize theft. And at the same time reduce prison populations by not sending thieves to jail.
At a meeting with both the police and a prosecutor the cops admitted they wouldn’t respond to thefts and the prosecutor said, and this is an accurate quote “we won’t waste our time“.
When I said that only leaves us the option of dealing with it ourselves they got very upset and insulted.

I'm going to go against the trend and recommend that you not reinforce the glass or install a cage.

It sucks that people can get in easily, but I'd rather have that happen than ever face a situation where I can't get OUT easily.

Just keep the truck empty when parked, as others have said.

No there really isn't. Take a statement, give you a case number, see ya later.

But what do I know? Apparently Jaywalking and Capital Murder are on the same plane.

Somebody opened up this 2 month old thread and the OP is long gone but I’ll put in my .02. Unless something with a serial number was stolen, the police can’t/ won’t do anything useful. When they pull over a tweaker and he has a Hello Kitty backpack with a physics book in it, they’re not going to search the stolen property database for Hello Kitty backpack.

There's a difference between what can be done, and what they're willing to do. Do you believe for one second that if Constable Six-pack's car was broken in to, all he would do is assign himself a report # and call it a day?

No one said jaywalking and murder were the same, what I said was, "There are no minor crimes". Every crime should be investigated to the fullest ability of the responsible agency. This attitude of, "It's not worth our time" is nothing more than laziness.

Just imagine the outcome if the mob brigade manages to "Defund the Police"?

I shudder to think about the aftermath.

I've called non-emergency for folks walking up to the cars in the neighborhood checking door handles, didn't expect much to happen except to have it recorded on file. Cops showed up 10-15 minutes later, snapped a picture of my cameras video footage, then disappeared. Came back about a half an hour later, dusted my truck as well as a few others on the block. Left again.

Later learned they arrested someone involved in theft of goods from other cars that night, prints matched.

I guess it just depends on where you live as far as how the police will handle the situation. *shrugs*
