Saving your truck from insured damage is more important than your own personal safety...okay got it!

Did you read the whole thing? "Usually the weather report will say "chance of hail" or "there will be hail" so you get some warning."

Then later in the thread I said "If the hail starts you let it go for your own safety, but generally you get notice of a incoming storm."

Read all comments before commenting, otherwise you miss things.

No sirens here. And if you’re lucky the news might have forecasted it. Fortunately for us here we maybe get hail once a year. Usually never bigger than a marble but I remember a few times around the size of a gold ball. Not baseball sized hail that some places get

If I have a clear warning that there will be hail, I make sure to not go out or I just put my car/truck in the garage. If hail catches me by surprise, I hope that there is a QT or RaceTrac nearby to hide under until it passes. Luckily I've been near a gas station every time. I do plan on purchasing a cover for the tacoma in the future, now that I only have one space available in my garage. The race car must be parked inside the garage lol

Order a Cybertruck. It will be manufactured with a 3mm cold rolled stainless steel exoskeleton that is 3mm thick (roughly 1/8”).

We have tornado sirens all over the place. They sound anytime there is bad weather, weather in our area can be really weird, so to be safe they fire off the sirens for most things. We get straight line winds, tornados, hail and flash floods all in a single storm.

We try to be proactive about severe weather, it’s smart behavior. I see peoples shit scattered everywhere after a storm. The weather forecasts nowadays are pretty good, yeah it was dime sized hail instead of quarter sized, we still got hail.

Like this, but I would strap it to the roof rack, then to the bumpers. Also would make side panels for it. There is a company down the street from me that makes pool noddles.

My dads new Jeep Grand Cherokee in 1998 got crushed in buffalo with golf ball sized hail. We all watched it, we asked why he didn’t run out to put it in the garage. He said “what’s the point if I I have to get one dent fixed for the same price they fix them all”.

Moving blanket, old comforter, car cover with some added foam for windshield and horizontal surfaces.

Ignore the haters, I agree with your thought process.

Thanks y'all. I would rather prevent damage if possible than have the hassle of insurance fixing something. I could go the moving blanket & truck cover route easily and that would transport nicely. Much easier than foam, and besides who doesn't have tons of use for moving blankets. I was thinking what if i'm parked overnight at a motel and the windshield gets busted. That's a half day minimum lost in travel time.

Last hailstorm we got took us by surprise. We had been fishing earlier that day and I ran a hook through the tip of my finger. It hurt and I knew it was gonna hurt more no matter what so I just ripped it out and kept fishing. Uhmm yeah, that hurt plenty. Running out later to cover an SUV and my truck from the hail I got hit on the head... and on that exact same fingertip.

There's this great thing called weather forecasts, buddy. You put the cover on before the storm starts.

You're in Texas too and you rely on WX reports? That last hailstorm for us had no warning.

If a hailstorm pops up without warning I sure as hell aren't going outside risking injury/death to cover my truck. I'll just let it go. On the other hand if reports do predict hail you bet your ass I'm seeking cover ahead of time. Not listening to a weather report would be like not listening to a doctor. Are they 100% right 100% of the time? No, but it's the best thing we've got to go off of.

Oh you mean the same weather forecast they put a 30 percent chance of rain nearly everyday?

A little bit of weirdness is going on right now. About 30 minutes ago the wind kicked up suddenly from the NE, which is strange. Our weather always comes from the SW, so I stayed outside a bit checking for rotating clouds (none) and hail (none). Now the sun is peeking through from the W while it's raining. Always heard that called "the devil is beating his wife". Anyhow, no swirlies, no bouncies, and my yard is getting watered for free. Life is good.
