Good eye, your correct, its called rattle can overhaul, there is a plastic support bracket (left&right) in bumper the passenger side is probably broke. Its also missing the hard to get badges which would indicate paint correction at some point. This is my question, don't those years of 1st gens have manual locking front hubs ?

I would not trust anything they sell. Their pricing and approach to sales screams stay away.

But those cars are actually uncommon. This is a Tacoma.

That's what this dealer does...services and cleans up nice old 1st gens then lists them for around $30k. I've seen several advertised over the last year. They do however look like some of the best examples and are very clean, I wonder what they actually sell for

I have to wonder what kind of parts they are using to service them, probably cheap aftermarket to maximize profit and that's no bueno in my book for that kind of price. But that's just speculation

Agreed I'd want all their records and would be going over it with a fine tooth comb. I see an Aisin timing belt sticker which I think is OEM but not sure to be honest. It's always hard to trust someone else's work, especially a dealer who's primary concern is profit

Super clean looking truck but not the pristine priceless gem the dealer seems to think it is or wants you to believe it is. Nor is it worth $29K.

Question, roughly, what would it cost me to have a shop install a 2-3" lift kit and new wheels and 33" tires to a bone stock first gen Tacoma? I'm not looking to aggressively off-road, just like the looks of it.

    Poor west coast people......
here in the mid west you could get about the same for about half the price....

They pore out of Texas.....the baby boomers kids dont want their parents 27 old tacomas...
by then they've racked up a couple grand in needed maintenance....

the type 'R' generation.....the low profilers.....

Only drawback.....here they sell quickly......unless its a standard....
    little more time for those.....

Only when they have one at dealership ....do they sit anytime here....
    go figure.....

BTW, It looks like he was able to sell it. Unbelievable.

Anyways, I'm happy to report out that I found one that I purchased yesterday that i'm happy with. It's a 1998 SR5 4WD with locking rear diff and 180k miles. I drove it 120 miles home yesterday with completely shot brakes. The front brakes are getting replaced monday and Les Schwab says rears need to be looked at by dealership. Says potentially has diff fluid in lines. Also, i have a mobile detailer and painless dent repair guy coming out soon. The interior is as grubby as it gets and theres a few minor dings. Bed liner and new shoes to follow. Here's a pic. Oh yeah, and paid 8k.
