    Hello all,

I have a 2015 Taco, and I think my dad has decided to switch to a Tacoma too. We found a truck nearby with the options he was wanting. Its an access cab trdof. Msrp is 38,015 they are asking 35,678 is that a good deal on a new 2017 or is there some money left on the table?

    I would guess less for a 2017.

Depends how bad you want it if it’s a good deal. Supply and demand... make them a counter offer...tell them it’s good til the end of the month. In my experience 7 to 10% off MSRP on a Tacoma is a good deal!

It has all the stuff he was wanting. But I suppose the supply/demand must not be good for a '17 four months into '18.lol

I’d tell them $34K or I’d get an 18. Nothing to lose by throwing it out there.

Also never express to a dealer how excited you might be about a truck cuz...they will bend you over! Better to act like one of the mopes at the poker table when...making an offer.

Definitely more wiggle room - how much all depends on how badly you want it/the dealer wants to get rid of it. Mine was listed at $39.5k and I paid $33.1K in November. Took 4 days and walking out of the dealer 3 times (once in the middle of paperwork). Every time I left, they'd call me back lowering the price.

Too much for an access cab. I paid $32k for my 2016 DCSB TRDOR with 8,000 miles on it in May 2017.

Whew, sounds like me but I still didn't get as good. Stickered at $39.8, all the options basically except leather. I got them to $30K, with a trade in of a truck that needed to go.

Get an 18 for that price, or go lower. I got my 17 last year in May for 36,300 OTD. DCLB TRD Sport.

Actually we are about 8 months into the '18 model year. The '19s will be out in September or so, production on '18's will end in a couple of months.

While a '17 may still be 'new' as in unused and full warranty, it's also 1 model year old. Quickly approaching 2. And regardless of the buzz about value retention, they do depreciate. (Ask your insurance carrier or lender. They are the ones that matter). So when you roll that off the lot, he's gonna take a double hit, just because.

If the plan is to keep it 20 years, it doesn't much matter. But most folks don't do that. And in 2-3 years it will still be a ding on the true value.

It's also costing that dealer money to sit on the lot. Toyota doesn't provide inventory for free. At the very least they are paying some marginal floor plan rate (interest rate). The longer it sits, the more they loose.

Beat them up some more. A lot more. Don't talk trade, don't talk financing, don't accept dealer add on 'stuff' of any kind. Only talk final price.

2 month ago my dad bought a new 2017 DCLB TRD OR 4x4 for 35.5k out the door. He had them throw in a bed mat and all weather mats also. It took a lot of going back and forth and a few times walking out but they were able to get the deal done in a day. He originally wanted a 18 in quicksand but for the price settled for the 17 in black. There’s definitely wiggle room just depends on how badly they want to sell the truck.
