Is it just me or is the price of a new Tacoma ridiculous? Mine is 2014 and the price has doubled.
I noticed that they seem to have taken a hard look at the interior and have improved the look. Typically Tacomas have been pretty basic but this year its obvious they are trying to appeal to the people that are using their truck primarily to drive in the city and not off road much (me)
They look amazing but what a price tag.

You are right, price has gone up. I was at DTLA about a month ago picking up a Camry with my brother and those are the Tacoma parked in the showroom.

California tax is strong in these prices. Elsewhere you can find Trail Hunters $3,000-4,000 off MSRP. TRD OR $5k off. One guy claimed upwards of $7,000 off SR5.

Sorry, what I meant was Tacomas aren’t discounted in California like other areas. People talk of the Toyota tax, it’s strong in California. Disposable income with more stupids who drop $80k on a truck they can get for $60 elsewhere.

Trailhunters in AZ are msrp + addendums.

Had the yota dealer in Peoria come down from msrp +699 tint on their white trailhunter I probably would have took the fishing line and let them reel my wallet in. I liked the truck, but not for over msrp.

I thought the same thing when shopping for a New Tacoma but now i think the price on these are fair considering The new Polaris RZR Pro UTV is pushing $100k - The Honda Civic Type R is nearly $50k let that sink in. Crazy times!

The rzr pro r starts at 35k. They don't cost 100k. The can am maverick r's are around 45-50k for the top models.

Feeling fortunate I bought my 2020 in December of 2019. TRD Sport, 3.5 V6, 6-speed manual with no bells and whistles for just over $34,000 including 6% sales tax. Maybe not a great deal at the time but exponentially better than what I see today.

To be fair, 2014 was a long time ago and some sh!t has gone down in the interim.
War, famine, plague, inflation, just to name a few.

Bad deals aside, I'm now wondering what hasn't doubled in price since then.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.

Fuck that's a lot of cash. To put this in perspective.

Here is the truck I almost bought. I got mine for 48900. The differences were nominal

it’s disproportionate and i never see this talked about. the SR/SR5 trims are basically in line with inflation. the ORs and Sports, Pros, TH trims got very disproportionate price increases compared to the 3g.

    Shit, I’ll talk about it.
I began shopping ( mostly window shopping) for a new dbl cab 4x4 starting in late 21. I specifically wanted a 22/23 Pro or SR5 Trail. Between late 21 and late 23 the Sr5 trail and Pro were usually 10k over msrp, not including dealer addons. When I finally I pulled the trigger back in early spring 24 I paid 52k for a used 22 Pro that had a sticker price of 54k, new.

I think Toyota is doing a pretty good job with the 4g Tacoma, with regard to value at the various trim levels.

Yeah heads-up displays and garage door links, auto dimming mirrors, 18 inch wheels, driver door bin, 4 wheel independent suspension, hybrid engines, Apple Car Play AND a fucking driver vanity mirror.

Not exactly a second gen SR5.

    insert fruit comparison analogies

    1. To determine the total cost of living, we factored in yearly expenses for housing, healthcare, taxes, food and transportation. Data sources include C2ER, KFF, MIT Living Wage Calculator and the U.S. Census Bureau.
    2. To calculate the disposable income, we subtracted the total cost of living from the average salary.
