Anyone sell or buy their SR or SR5 DC 4x4 recently? I decided to part with my second 3rd gen, had a 2018 and 2022, both SRs. Got offers of $32k, 35k and 37k from a dealer, Vroom and Carvana in that order. Haven't put it on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace yet. Not sure I want to deal with the tire kickers at these high prices. I paid $34,200 plus TTL for a total of $37,000 OTD tax, reg and all, brand new. It's got a measly 1,650 miles on it now. Only "add ons" are bed matt and 2 sets of floor mats, rubber and carpet. Also have wheels and tires that may or may not be included.

KBB doesn't even list 2022 Tacomas yet. The value for a 2021 is $37,782 - $42,515 private party and $36,411 - $38,904 trade in. Would you guys take the $37k from Vroom and call it a day. Easy no hassle or list it private party and eek out another few thousand? I was going to sell without my 17" TRD pro wheels and brand new Wildpeaks but could leave them on and just ask $40k firm private party. Seems nuts though. Hard to believe I could get over $40k used private party dealing with all the flakes, tire kickers and their private financing. Anyone have experience selling a low mileage Tacoma recently? How'd you handle this?

Why did you buy it? Only you can make that decision to sell for what you have into it.

I’d post in the 3rd Gen BST here first, $40k firm and unlikely to have tire kickers

Is anybody out there paying the top end private party sales price? I can't imagine anyone would.

I don't know what used trucks are going for, but I would think a dealership would sell a truck for less than the high end of the pp price.

Dealers probably have a lot of low millage almost new, demo condition vehicles as inventory. They are probably asking a lot for them, but I wonder what people are paying.

people are paying dealer markups all over the place, at least this one would come with tires and wheels

If the buyer could buy new at MSRP, why wouldn't they do that?

Provided they can find the truck they want, and a dealer who is willing to play ball.

I'd like to see you get the most out of your truck. I just can not think like a buyer in this situation.

People are doing it. I know nuts, but they are. In CA, most dealers are adding $5k over retail and that's on a VERY limited inventory. That's what's driving this. I sold my 2018 SR last October for $35k and the truck cost me $32.5k new plus TTL, total of $36k. It had 50k on it too. Turned around and got the 2022 for the price I posted above. Cost me very little to swap.

I got this truck from one of the rare dealers not charging over MSRP.

Really? I wonder. I have 5 days til my Carvana offer expires but I could always renew it.

Got it because it was a cheap "upgrade" from my 2018 with 50k to 2022 with zero miles.

its pretty obvious you havent been to a dealer in the past two years

the thought of several lightly used tacomas sitting on a dealers lot for under MSRP is laughable these days

Nope I wouldn't buy a Toyota in this market.

I know some people need to replace vehicles, and unless I could get a Toyota at a reasonable price which would probably be MSRP. I would take my lumps and buy something else.

Then why sell it? Plus your only going to get, what you have into it. From what you said was offered on it. Not going to get lucky finding another one cheap. This crap is going to get worse before it gets better. Every manufacturer is cutting production even more.

I have a 2020 Tacoma SR5 V6 2wd with some add ons from the factory and paid 32k out the door everything included at the end of 2019. Within the past month I went online to 3 or 4 different websites to get cash offers for giggles and highest I found was from CarMax for $31,600. My truck has 22k miles on it and in excellent condition with no wear at all, has a $3,000 Leer topper but didn’t claim that or factor it into the price. This January I did the same thing and got an offer for around $34,000 with 20k miles on the truck.
I’m not interested in selling my truck but was just curious and can get an answer in under 5 minutes online.

I was just focused on how cheap the upgrade was from my 2018 to 2022 and felt "why not" so did it. Problem is, my son is 15 and just hit 6' tall! He's going to be well over 6' and is maxed out in the rear seat right now. Long story short, my wife refuses to ride in the back for long trips so we just take our RX350, which is 10x nicer riding than the Tacoma anyways. I have a 3rd car, AWD Vibe so that takes the pressure off. I have never really gelled with this Tacoma. The tranny is smooth as butter, unlike my 2018. It's very quiet inside and I like the new head unit. The suspension is a lot stiffer than my old one and it'd need to be replaced, which I didn't plan on doing. I don't really want a lift. Overall, it's normal for these new Tacomas to be prone to some vibes. Mine is pretty good, but overall, I'm just not that happy with the thing. Since we have a 3rd car, I plan on either finding an older regular cab Silverado 4x4 for just basic "truck" duties, to use and abuse and then see what kind of EVs come out in the next few years. I'd love an EV Tacoma or Maverick in a few years. I also have a free 2wd Silverado that I can snag from a family member. Just needs some work. I also will be selling my KTM dirt bike for a dual sport this summer, which will take even more load off needing a truck for offroad exploring.

Put it back to stock, take the dealer's money and call it a day.

My mindset is that anything less than two years old is a buyer's remorse special and therefore open season for impolite negotiation.

Probably. I imaging going through at least 3 weeks of tire kickers, flakes and unqualified buyers who can't get a loan. Honestly it'd feel weird selling to someone private party for $40k+ when the MSRP was/is $34k. No remorse selling to Carvana for $37k though! I should be able to get $1700 or so for the 17" pro wheels with new Wildpeaks on top of that price, sold separately. The truck is in mint condition so it's not like I'm scamming someone but still....

Man Id love to have my tacoma near Tahoe for exploration! I went last summer for the first time, stayed with a buddy who use to live there but since moved to Reno. That is a little slice of heaven up there, hoping to get up there this fall with my new tacoma and camper shell when it comes in. I was there for 6 days and I hated when we had to leave for the day and go back to Reno. I wanna camp there for sure this time!

For sure. It's awesome up here if you love the outdoors. It's crazy expensive but worth every penny. Everything outdoors is here for the most part. I mainly mountain bike a ton, snowboard and spend time at Tahoe (beaches) and the other lakes, rivers and creeks. We also ride motos, backpack, kayak/sup, etc. It's endless. Tahoe is only the tip of the iceberg. Truckee, north of Truckee all the way up through Sierra County and the Eastern Sierras are all filled with amazing places.

If you come up this way in the fall especially, definitely check out the canyons places between Bridgeport and Mammoth. It's awesome when the Aspen's change colors.
