I know, I know, I know! Its not that hard. You can do it yourself. But if you just happened to be getting new tires and happened to have the 5100's and rear AAL sitting around, how much do you think would be a good price to have both of those installed while getting new tires put on as well?

I'm in the same boat, only I'll be getting wheels put on my current tires. There is an ongoing "price for your lift" thread, but most people just post the cost of parts then say free install in my garage or something like that, which is rather annoying to see on that particular thread, although there is some useful info. From what I could tell it's around 3-4 hrs labor, so for the varying labor fees I would think $200-400 plus then an alignment which is probably $80..? I don't know, I was thinking/hoping to get all of mine done for around $500...maybe that's wishful thinking. Hopefully somebody will weigh in....

Are you asking about the cost of 5100s up front or just in the rear?

Just the cost to have them installed - assuming I have them purchased already. So i guess we are talking labor.

Wow! That is way less than I was thinking, do you know how many hours they charged you for? That's exactly what I need done, plus wheels.

    Stock
Shops have a bit more overhead than you slapping on parts in your garage. Not to mention the huge cost of liability insurance

I couldn't get any shop local to even throw me a quote, they all refused to install customer owned parts. :notsure:

I just installed my rear 3 leaf AAL and 5100s, and I put my 5100 fronts in a few months ago after I got my new tires installed. It really is not worth paying someone to do, if you can get it all done for $200 I'd do it just to save the hassle, but more than that and it makes no sense to me.

I'd try to post in a regional subforum and see if you can get hooked up with a local TWer who can help you for beer, free, or cash and go from there. I know I'd personally rather give someone I know cash than put it in a shops cash drawer. Anyway, my .02

I completely get that, but they still overcharge for things like this and can. It’s a business and they need to make money, no explaining necessary.

And I don't slap parts on like the dip shit getting paid $12 an hour would ;)

I was able to do it with a friend on a garage floor in a 4-5 hours. It would have been a lot faster if I had a lift to work with. A competent shop with everything needed to do it should be able to knock it out in 2-3 hours max I would think.

I'll give you $100 and a 30 pack if you can do the same work for me. :)

It's nice to work on your truck and all, but damn, it sucks without a proper lift.

Just saw this... pretty tempting, beer + $100 sounds fair.
You just doing 5100 all the way around or coils as well?

All you need is a couple of jacks to get er done, thats all I use. For the front I have a coil compressor so its pretty easy for me. I just take the assembled strut off, take it apart and build it back up with the new goods (did the 5100 with new hats and OME coils for the friend of a friend) and bolt it back into place.

My only issue with helping folks out is lack of time, I'm always busy. That and the wife and kids hate to hang around the house on the weekends. Got grief for the last go-around and wife said I should have charged more for wasting part of my Saturday.

Yeah I'm not completely against helping others out with this, but I do prefer it if its someone I know or at least a friend of a friend.

I called two local shops today:
Shop #1 quoted 3-4 hours labor at $75 an hour. Align would be additional $100.
Shop #2 quoted $400 with alignment included.
My local Toyota dealer does alignments for $65.
