Anyone noticing the 2nd Gen values sliding up? I was looking at pricing on some cars the other day and threw my '13 into NADA for shits. The value is way up. NADA clean trade is with 5% of what I paid at the dealer CPO in Sept '14, with 25k less miles. I did a standard look through all available data and it's consistent. It's tempting to swap out of it with a ton of CPO warranty left.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been noticing. I know our trucks hold value well, but this is somewhat outside of even that range. Sorry if it's been talked about recently.

I don't understand why Tacoma's (in general) are so expensive and why they resale for so much... its a bit ridiculous IMO. Of course its nice that the value is good when your the owner of one but when you are shopping around, man people sure are proud of these things and it is reflected in the price.

Maybe all of us 3rd gen owners are lemoning their trucks, making 2nd gen extra valuable?

@ZachMX where are you? I imagine you can speak to it best given the sheer number of Tacomas you have had and your recent attempted transactions of your trading 3rd gen for better 2nd gen?

Because they go 500k-1M miles. Demand is there. Market bears that out.

You wanna see crazy, try finding a early 2ng gen tundra in regular cab short bed with the 5.7 and 4wd. When found they are going for 20k + and only occasionly going for less. Mind you some dealers blew these out for less then this when new. Im talking an 07 with 120k miles for 19k + all day long. its nuts

Well Tundra regular cab in that configuration is a rarity. There are cars dealers blow out when new (I remember my 04 Mazdaspeed MSM). However, 10 years later, people covet them.

Locally GEN 1 with 150-180K miles are going for 9-13K!! Take about insane.

07 with 120K miles for 19k is a bargain, relatively speaking.

Which is the reason buying Tacoma new makes the most sense.

I've been buying and selling cars for a while now and I've never seen this. They're so incredibly inexpensive to maintain as well. It's a weird outlier. I love the truck but I don't really need a bed anymore and these prices are stupid. The thing is in impeccable condition and even completely dealer serviced. My only apprehension is because it's been so good and inexpensive, I'm worried I'll miss it. I'm looking at stuff that's going to be warrantied anyway, but still. It's the best car I've ever owned.

its a fact... bad deer hit a month ago and my buddy that owns the body shop and I were on the fence about trying to total it...

we got into the books and figured out it was worth $500 more than I paid for it 12 months and 25000 miles ago...

I spent countless hours looking for one of these... I have only found one or two and they have been obscenely expensive and have had high mileage.

I originally was looking for a used tacoma when i bought but the prices were so rediculously high, along with the milage, that it was a better deal to buy a new one for only a few thousand more.

Right before I bought my '14 this summer, I was considering buying a gen 1 to do my truck stuff and then something else better on gas, as my DD. There was a slightly lifted, clean '01 near our cabin. Stopped and checked it out. 198k on it. Dude wanted like $10k for it. A week or so later, it was gone. Crazy what people are pulling for these trucks on the used market.

I've noticed this in searching for a 2nd gen for myself. Borderline crack dealer prices...

I found my 06 Base (DCLB 4wd) w/ 92K on it earlier this year at a dealer for 18.5 I felt it was high but it JUST came back from having the frame replaced with the leafs, upper control arms w/ ball joints, new brakes and pads, new brake and fuel lines, and brand new tires so I felt it was pretty safe. I was in the market for about 6 months prior and new the market decently well... They are just crazy expensive but I don't regret it any. It's hard to explain to a non-Toyota fan that, that Tacos are just very pricey trucks no matter the year. Especially compared to a 06 F150 or Silverado that can be had for about 5-7K. This is my first yoder and I feel confident I won't own anything but.

I bought the one in my profile pic in 2012. It's an 08 v-6 already had the Cap and 42,000 miles -all serviced at the same Toyota dealer. Asking $ was 19,300 and nothing down - 22370 out the door with taxes the ext. 100k warranty anti theft proximity alarm added along with GAP loan insurance in 2012 and got mad at myself cause a new one was advertised for 26,000 just a week later. But haven't regretted it since now with 107k and some personalization. It's Been a great truck and I will keep forever. Especially since just have a 6 more payments left. Unless this trend continues upward.

I like that I can sell mine for what I paid for it, 2 years ago, minus mods.

My dad recently asked me if I wanted his 2000, TRDOR, 4X4, with 60K miles. I couldn't believe difference between KBB and market price (he paid less for it 15 years ago, than its worth now). He told me he would be happy with KBB since he wants to keep it in the family, so looks like I'll be making out pretty well on that one.
