Prices in the new car market are about to tank, will Toyota get the memo?

I've been following a mustang. Dealer pulled up CarGurus to show it 6k below market. They then dropped the price 2k and now CarGurus shows it 4k below market. Used coupes are falling like rocks. Looks like they finally moved it. I'll have to run the vin later to see if it sold or auctioned

 

Seen the prices of full-size trucks lately? More trucks per-capita out west.

Yea but that graphic is just for payments over 1k/mo. Doesn't imply its only trucks. And I'd be willing to bet there's more high ends cars priced above full size trucks. I'd expect areas w/ major cities to rule that graph considering thats where a lot of sports cars typically dominate by volume. Heck, Miami and LA are almost walking car shows at this point w/ the number of Ferraris/Lambos/Porsche, etc.

 

Getting to conversation way late. I think this is 1000% the way auto manufacturers are thinking. Constrain supply and make up profits on price and rates etc. Actually I think the tesla pricing / sales model is also to blame. This is the price. Buy now. Ebay sales model.

I just bought an accord touring (keeping my tacoma too) and the experience was so painful. Mandatory packages. Dealers not willing to negotiate at all. I chose one dealer and was able to get 1000 off msrp. Negotiating was painful. At time of agreement i was told 7-14 days till delivery. That was 3 weeks ago. If I were to do it all over I would wait for used market for the vehicle I wanted and buy from a private seller.

 

I’m surprised the Accord wasn’t 10% off MSRP.

 

I like the new Accord, I suppose I’m in the minority. Also an Accord Hybrid Sport L is about $4,500 less than a Camry XSE Hybrid apple to apple.

 

Unfortunately I wouldn’t buy a new Honda right now with the 1.5T. Lots of head gaskets popping on the 1.5s. Honda seems to be ignoring this issue too which is concerning.

 

Looks like they’re trying to move more towards a hybrid lineup for trim levels. I see the 1.5T isn’t an option across the board. I did hear about the issues you mention.

 

What’s the biggest tire I can get on an Accord without a lift?

It's been up for days at least. I'd think if it was truly an error they would have been corrected by someone at this point

 

I believe much of the profit new vehicle manufacturing companies realize is from financing sales on new vehicle purchases. If volume is constrained, nobody is borrowing money from them. I think supplier issues are still a real problem for most of the auto makers.

... between this ^^ and "what dealers have a new 24 in the lot" we need someone to hack into a satellite feed for real time dealer lot monitoring. Dealer websites seem like crap lately, and that show 'check for availability' on a vehicle after clicking IN STOCK is getting old.
