I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong thread and I do not want to name any names, but had a question about a transaction that I made today.
I have been looking for an All Pro U-Bolt Flip Kit for my 2013 Tacoma 4WD DC LTD and most sites were asking $59 for the kit, but I came across a site here in CA that had it for $49 so I ordered it over the phone. When he told me the total (over $70) I said "Whoa, that is a lot for shipping isn't it?" and he told me there was tax as I am a CA resident and I did realize that the kit weighs 12lbs, so thought that everything was Jake.
A few minutes later I get an email receipt with the charges and the kit was listed as $59 NOT the $49 shown on the site, so I called him up to ask about it. The guy was really nice and admitted that the site said $49, but that it was the wrong price. I asked if they would honor the price advertised on the site and he said no.
While I was on the phone with him he had told me that All Pro had moved from CA to MT, so I started thinking that if they won't honor the price displayed, at least this once for me finding the problem for them, why shouldn't I just by from All Pro at $59 and pay NO tax? So I sent him an email cancelling the order and explaining why, then I placed the order with All Pro.
I have not hear back from the company yet as to whether or not they cancelled my order or not. I am mainly posting in this thread to see what you guys think. I was and am not trying to take advantage of a businesses mistake, but I think it would have been a classy move to say "You are right, the incorrect amount is posted on our site. We will honor it for bringing it to our attention, but not in the future (once the mistake has been corrected)". This would have done two things:
1 Created a loyal customer and
2 Encouraged me to share the POSITIVE experience with my fellow Taco owners. As it is, I will not shop there again.
I am just curious what everyone else thinks about this. Not a big deal, just curios if I am expecting too much.
    Thanks for your time.
    Ken

I concur. The few times I've found pricing mistakes in the retail setting I've brought them to the attention of the employees and they have said "if you want to buy it right now, we'll sell it at the mislabeled price, but as soon as you leave we're fixing the price." I'm a big fan of this practice and I agree with you. That's just good customer service. If I were the business owner, the difference in price isn't worth the negative ramifications it will cause. I would've done the same thing as you as far as cancelling the order.

I agree in this instance. I don't have a problem with vendors saying it's a wrong price if the real price is substantially more. It's only $10 here. That's not going to bankrupt them.

Thanks guys, MUCH appreciate the feedback. I am not trying to be a penny pincher OR give the company a bad name (that is why I didn't want to name names), just was curious if I was acting rationally and responsibly. $10 is no big deal, it is just kind of the principle and how customer service has taken a back seat to #s at a lot of place.

Gotta give PROPS to All-Pro. After placing my order with them I noticed that they had charged me tax even though they are now in MT NOT CA. I got a quick reply from Kurtis explaining that they had to pay CA tax through April (figures, this state gouges you every chance they get) but that he had refunded me the tax anyway! THAT is customer service! I honestly didn't care about the amount, again it was the principle (the government gets WAY too much of our money already). The rule is supposed to be that you are only charged tax ordering items on the internet if the company you are buying from has a "presence in the state" (store front, warehouse, etc.). Kurtis went above and beyond as far as I am concerned, and I will check them out any time I need something they sell.
