I would look at the Cooper Discoverer AT3 and the General Grabber A/TX...both available in SL load in a 265/70/17. Once my new wheels come in this week I'm putting Generals on mine.

We are all happy to help! That is what this forum is all about !

If you have a good relationship with the Toyota service guy, I would run with that. Or the local tire shop. Like I said, either way, you can't go wrong.

Love the spread sheet. I will say this, though, if you are not doing off road, I would definitely broaden your tire search a little. If I was never going off road, I would drive nothing but the best Michelins (or the Nokians).

I will also say this ... the stock tires that came with my Tacoma (the Goodyears) were actually pretty good. I thought they ran well, they were quiet, and were an overall good tire for on road use. I think a lot of people who didn't like them found them to be substandard when they took them off road. I get that. But that really isn't the best use for that tire. I fully understand that people are also not happy with them because they feel that a truck built for Off Road (i.e., Toyota TRD OR!) needs more off road tires. I get that. But I think Toyota is picking the best possible tire for the vast majority of users.

Sounds like you want the most aggressive looking on road tire, am I right?

    :)

I will also add this ... at about 40K miles, depending on how much you drive, you will start looking. I would guess that very few of us run our tires right up to the warranty. So the difference between 50K and 60K is not that much of a difference maker.

With tires used in mud or deep snow once you get over 40K on them they aren't much better than street tires. When I replace mine depends on the season. If I hit about 40K in the fall when I start doing a lot of hunting on muddy roads and have to get through the winter with snow I go ahead and buy new tires sometime in October.

If I hit about 40K in the spring or summer I'll run 'em until late October or November and get a few more miles out of them.

I am planning a trip to tackle the GA Traverse, so I do want some off-road capability - why I'm not really broadening my search. If you can't tell, I'm slightly indecisive:goingcrazy: It took me three years to figure out what truck I want to buy. It would make sense to offer a slightly more aggressive tire on the off-road package, but I guess for those that have not heard of TacomaWorld, they keep the stocks on. I'm hoping to get some new ones soon, so I can sell the Goodyear&wheels with low miles (~600 miles - not commuting with work-from-home protocols still at the office).

You may be on to something here!!...

Nothing wrong with being ... deliberative ... ! Ha!

Do me a favor, visit three places over the next week and ask them for their opinion. Look at the tires they have. See if one of those doesn't jump to the forefront of what you want. I agree. The faster you sell the stock tires the more you will get for them.

What's your experience with those? I'm planning on getting those when my stock (Firestone Destination) wear out.

At the risk of committing heresy; I actually really liked the Goodyear's too. The problem for me is compounded however: I had to replace two tires early and I made the choice to stick with the factory tires at the time as it was the cheapest option. Now I'm at around 27K miles on the remaining two from the factory and about 14K on the new tires. I felt with the last snowfall and the moist grass I dealt with the more worn tires weren't nearly as effective as I'd like them to be. I took it as an opportunity to upgrade and hence my reason for going to the Generals. NYS deems me an "essential employee" which means I really don't have a choice to stay home when the weather is crappy so hopefully I'll get a lot more useful miles out of the new rubber.

Having to replace 1 or 2 tires that far into the life of your current set just hurts so much. It completely throws logic out the window when rotating and needing to purchase new ones.

Exactly...at the time I figured let me save some money and when the time comes I already know I was going to have to spend some $$$ so I could at least prepare myself.

Ha! As a fellow New Yorker, I don't think it is heresy at all !

The only reason I got rid of the stock Goodyear tires was that I have a buddy who is a contractor and wanted them for his truck. I wanted to keep the mileage low and got a good price for them and it was a quick transaction. Had it not been that quick and easy, I probably would have kept them until the needed to be replaced. And, it is worth nothing that I was pleasantly surprised by those tires. Granted, they were not off road monsters but they were not terrible either.

Worry you had to replace two ... that is the worst ...

Hang in there ... and be safe ... this will all be over soon !

    :)

I ran these on my F250 and the Xtreme A/T that came before them. Great tire that goes under the radar of most people.
