Hey Zak, got a serious question for you. Do you still have your 4gal on your rack? Do you keep it there all the time? Have you noticed the can warping from pressure? I do keep it on the rack at all times, not always full but recently (maybe as it gets warmer) I've noticed the can warping really bad. I'm worried I might have it end up leaking. Any info on this appreciated. Don't know how much I should be concerned.

I took mine down the other day temporarily. I have had it on the truck full since I got it. It is swollen and warped a bit like you have shown but it has never leaked. I was curious just like you. I stuck it under a big bundle of extrusion the other night and it flattened out and reformed back to the normal shape.

I doubt that leaking will occur but I am not sure how to keep it from swelling other than to not always fill it which defeats the purpose in my opinion. I am going to talk to Rotopax and see what they have to say and if they have any recommendations.

Just the highway manners are a selling point to me. This truck is our only vehicle so being able to talk without the constant hum of the KM2s has been very nice. Soon I will find out how well the offroad traction is

Yea please let me know what Rotopax says. If you can post in my build that would be great, don't wanna miss the info through other comments. I was gonna contact myself but maybe with a direct connection you could get faster more accurate answeres.

Glad you like them so far for on road use. When I first got them the open tread pattern to noise ratio didn't make sence. They are super quiet even at high speeds. I'm pumped when I see other people with the Maxxs. I'm not like "there good cuz I have them", it's more like "there good cuz there good!"

Another thought, how would I be able to stack cans after this warping :notsure:

I had mine stacked before and honestly they didn't start warping till after I removed the top layer. I had the storage and first aid combo on top which I think shaded and shielded the fuel from heat. Maybe that is the best solution.

You know that crossed my mind today. But seems like a very expensive solution. I would need longer T handles and I really don't have a need for more cans. The only thing I could wrap my head around working would be an aluminum plate same size as the 4gal can just to deflect the heat and sunlight. Other wise like you said I don't wanna put 3gals, in a 4gal can lol. Anyway would love to hear Rotopax feed back bout this.

Figured I would chime in on the rotopax convo. Mine has been swelling up and talked to a couple different people about their experience. Its good practice if you leave them up try to either have them empty (stupid i know) or relieve the pressure every couple of days (kind of a pain since you need to take them off). Another member had a can leak at the seam and talked to rotopax and they took care of him IIRC.

With my bumper coming soon (hopefully) I decided against the rotopax mount and going with jerry cans so I don't have to worry about swelling/ breakage, and leaving the rotopax off unless I need them for a big trip.

Also might be needing another rack soon for the topper I just picked up :)

I tried contacting the person I was working with to become a dealer and haven't heard back. I researched on a few other forums and found similar conversations with no solutions and little feedback from rotopax.

I also "bleed" the rotopax every so often to let the pressure out. I've had mine for 1.5+ years with them outside the entire time. They did warp a bit but haven't leaked. Sometimes I just leave the caps slightly loose so pressure doesn't build when they're not in use. Zach I got the mount thanks again!

Good to know. I still have't heard from rotopax so what you are saying is probably the best bet. Sorry the mounts took so long.

Couple of big changes are headed towards the truck. Nothing you guys will think is too cool but some necessary upgrades for camping season.

    1. I sold my Tepui Autana. No complaints and loved the tent but we soon will have 2 little ones and needed to reorganize. The autana is great if you want to sleep in the annex but I don't want to have a roof top tent and sleep on the ground and definitely don't want my young kids down there alone. Not only do we have a lot of pesky bears in many areas that I camp, but going up and down the ladder to attend to all the needs of the kids isn't any fun. I had planned to replace the autana with a XL ruggedized and put it on the trailer. It looked like a perfect tent but is way to bulky and big for the top of our shell or in the bed of the truck. In the end I decided I didn't like the liability of the trailer all the time so we sold it, and the autana to fund the order of an Eezi Awn 1600 as the new tent. It is about 7-8" wider than the autana and is recommended for 2 adults and 2 small children. It is smaller than the XL so it will fit nicely on our truck without being too big. The price is higher yes, but when compared with the Tepui ruggedized series, the features are pretty similar. Wood floor on the Eezi Awn vs Aluminum Diamond on the tepui, Slightly heavier fabric on the Eezi Awn, and a few other things here and there. Paul May with Equipt is also opening a shop in Salt Lake soon so he was able to get me a tent up here from his AZ warehouse without hefty freight charges.

    2. My snugtop sell has been great. I picked it up used for $700 with matched color and everything. It never had any major leaks and all the parts on it worked great. However, it had no windoors. For those of you who know what windoors are you know they are invaulable. I also found that the boot design of my snugtop wore the paint off the back of the cab on the truck. Didn't realize till yesterday when I had it off. Anywhere the rubber gasket touched the truck had been worn through the paint and in some places through the primer. Really pissed me off. Anyway, the snugtop sold for a bit more than I paid even after a year or more of use. I placed an order today for a replacement shell. I went basic with the model, looks aren't a huge deal for me so the basic Leer 100R was my choice. I got it with a carpeted headliner, removable front slider window, vented windoors on both sides, and thule tracks installed from the Leer factory so I could mount my toprac. The topper will be fully warrantied from here on out and has all the features I could want. The other good thing is that Leer now uses the honeycomb roof for reinforcement like snugtop does. This means that even the standard model like the 100R is going to have a good load rating. The dealer said they would put 300-350 lbs on the 100R no problem which I believe after putting at least that on my snugtop. The 100 RCC is stronger still but overkill for my needs.

    3. I have a tembo tusk fridge slide on order as well and am considering going back to a basic drawer setup in the bed. Something that is strong enough to put a ton of weight on top of for when I haul extrusion and aluminum parts for the business but still keeps stuff organized at other times. Still haven't decided fully but it is a thought.

Good call. I could not imagine having a camper shell without the windoors. You will be super happy with that upgrade!!
