Yeah, I did too. But between the clearance needed for the brake kit, the ideal size of 285 75 17, and the fact that new wheels and tires are so much fun I went for it.

The day after I ordered my wheels and tires SOS performance came out with a Big brake Kit for 16" wheels. It has slightly smaller rotors but should fit the f5s fine

Right now I have 16" F5s with 285 75 16 Cooper ST Maxx. Love that combo. I will be going to 17" SR8s with 285 75 17 ST Maxx again.

Ahh I see. 285 75 17 like you said is not to far off 35 territory. Only thing I would be concerned about is backspace. Do 17 SR8 come with 3.5bs?

Nope, 4.30 IIRC. It should be about perfect. The 3.5BS gives a wide stance but it also puts the tire right in the cab mount, I had to trim a lot and beat the pinch weld pretty good with my 3.5 BS F5s. With the 285 width I think a 4.3 - 4.5 BS wheel is better suited. Gets you off of the UCA but not so far that you are having to chop the cab mount down to nothing.

I just got my second set of 255/80/17 Maxxs two months ago. Didn't know this size was available.. Will have to wait a few years and go this route as well.

I didn't either until I was just browsing around and found it. Apparently it is pretty common among Jeep guys but not so much the toyota crowd. Not sure why but I guess I will find out one way or another. They should be in tomorrow. If my wheels show up. Two made it here fine. The others have been delayed due to weather for a couple days now.

Yea I've always like the "skinnys" so curious how 11" wide looks. Especially the size is available in Cooper ST Maxx! I haven't found a reason to look elsewhere for a tire.

I am moving to 255s in the spring myself. On 235s now, that 9.5 inchs baby! I love the 235s, but I want the extra inch of clearance.

    Hey Zach,

I've been curious... how is your vinyl holding up on the trails? Has it torn, peeled, or anything? Any areas that have been more prone to cosmetic wear?

It has held up really well so far. I haven't had it on a ton of trails cause I was so busy during the fall, but the truck lives outside and we have had a lot of snow, rain, ice, and road salt and none of those seem to do much to it.

Yeah, being down here in the desert, I'm mainly concerned with pinstriping from plants and what not... Probably not as common for you.

    Thanks for the input.

Hey I know you run 16 before now 17 rim. Do you like the Cooper tire and have you ran the 255/85/16 or would you go with the 285/75/16? Sorry to ask all this on tires but getting ready to purchase and saw your posts.

It will scratch a little easier when it comes to AZ pinstripes, but tearing or ripping doesn't seem to be an issue. Ive taken some good branches but those just leave more noticeable marks, a friend who's more skilled with vinyl myself said if I were to heat up the bad scratches that the vinyl memory will remove the noticeable scratches. Haven't given it a try yet, honestly don't even care since thats the purpose of the vinyl.

Its the one thing I should have done from the beginning to save my paint

I paid $660 in material, I bought more than what I needed since I wanted extra for replacing panels/mess ups. IIRC It took 35-40' and I bought 55'

Did the work myself without any experience and got it done in a weekend with some help from the wife.
