I think the front rails arrive today.
It's going to be a few weeks until I have time to play around with it though. :(

I'll certainly keep you posted.

^^^^^^^^^Glad they got there safe and sound.

For everyone else wanting updates on your order here you go.

J4RR, Triumphdog, Younglexx, TSDENT, I am headed to UPS now to drop off your orders. You should have gotten the shipment confirmation email already.

Evenflow, your order is still with the powdercoater. I will be contacting them today to see what the time frame is.

Denvermojo, I have your order all in stock and have started preparing everything and getting everything packaged up. I will plan on shipping it next week between Monday and Wednesday.

To anyone else interested in these. I have most materials for a few racks in stock so turn around time should be fairly quick as long as school and family life don't present any major disruptions. PM me if you want to order.

woot! Can't wait to get the rack! Very psyched!

So, want some opinions from folks. I'm getting the CabRack and am going to eventually put a RTT (CVT Mt. Rainier) on it. I may end up going with a bed rack for the RTT, but want to see how it works out mounting the RTT on this CabRack. The big question mark for me on this is that i can't use a garage hoist because i don't have enough clearance under the garage door. Not sure how much of a PIA it will be to get the RTT on/off the top of the cab...

With that said, I'm thinking about painting or powdercoating the side rails black and leaving the crossbars bare. I figure that i will be sliding the RTT on/off the cross bars and leaving them bare will be better than worrying about scratching off paint/powdercoat everytime i take the RTT on/off.

What do you all think about the aesthetics of black side rails and silver cross bars?

I would personally say go with a bedrack for the RTT and leave the roof rack for other items. Not that the rack won't handle the RTT but i would think you would get wind drag and noise up front. Plus on a bedrack you can put it lower and have it below the cab of the truck and have no drag. Thats my opinion though and I have never had my RTT on a rack over the cab. Always on the topper or on a bedrack.

As far as the painting goes. I think it is the best option. The guy I made the FJ rack did this and although it worked well with his particular color scheme I think it is the practical option for any truck. Unless you often fly or hover, you wont see the crossbars most of time with the exception of the rear one. Also, like you mentioned you are constantly going to be scraping, sliding, and moving items across the bars be it a RTT, lumber, cargo boxes, etc. and that will wear down any type of coating.

Thanks, yeah, I'm exploring my bedrack options, too. I currently have a Softopper in back, and would prefer to not give that up. I do have thule bars mounted across the bed as well, which I can mount the RTT to as well. In that setup, I'd have to take down the Softopper, which I'm ok with. But, then the RTT will sit lower than I'd like it to. I don't have the RTT yet (got in late on the group buy), so may wait till i get the RTT to make a final decision. But, irrespective of where I mount the RTT, I knew i wanted this CabRack. I had my eye on the Frontrunner rack, like you too, but way too spendy. Was stoked to see you come out with this option!

I guess I'll do the side rails in black for now and see how that goes. Can always paint the crossbars later if I don't like the look!

You could always do an over the softtopper bed rack like Chamyota or sytfu510 have. I like those options. Then you could have a small deflector at the rear of the cabrack to push the air up and over your RTT.

Once I have mine built and I know everything fits, I'm going to get the whole thing powder coated black.

Aluminum likes to oxidize here. :(

I ended up rattle can painting mine cause I got tired of looking at the bare aluminum sides. I like the look of the black but I was recommended a type of paint from a local guy who bought my OEM bumper and I had a hard time keeping it from running. I usually do pretty good with the rustoleum so I will probably just use it when I fix the runs.

Scott - you should make something like this and have it match the design aesthetics of your CabRack/CapRack. Maybe make matching aluminum legs that would mount in a similar fashion and can easily pair up with your CapRack. No idea if that Vantech brand is any good, but it says it's rated up to 600 lbs. I had previously been considering the US Truck Cap Rack that Softopper sells as well, which is similar. I'm just not crazy on the aesthetics of it. You'd have at least one person interested if you offered something like that, though! :D

So you make roof racks for 05 Tacoma access cabs?

Yes. They require you to drill holes into your roof in the channels on each side and install rivet nuts to mount the rack but the process is very simple. There are some pictures in the original post and Cameron (Shutterbug) can probably give you a review of how his is working out if you PM him. I think he has had his on for about a week now.
