Definitely.. lol I'll probably just disassemble the whole thing, write a program, vice the bars in the HAAS and let it run the whole thing. eazy peazy

The extrusion manufacturer I use for the bars actually has an option to machine in a center access point. It has been something I have considered for along time but it adds about $3-4 to the cost of each crossbar. 6 bars per rack and it is going to be $18-24 of price increase.

I actually am surprised you were able to get such a good result with the drill press. What type of bit? I have done it a couple times but mine usually messes up the slots pretty good.

The only other issue I have with it is that they do the machining, like cutting, tapping and milling after the anodize. They anodize full sticks (~25' length). If they anodized after machining and all the edges stayed black I would be more open to doing it.

I betcha most folks would be cool with the bit of exposed silver if you offered it as an option for $50/rack or so. Just send out a sharpie with each one!

I was back and forth with what kind of bit to use. I concluded on starting with a standard 5/8" or 16mm twist bit, but I went prepared with a 5/8" hole saw, and was prepared to buy an end mill bit. I clamped the bars on both sides of the chuck, and had block stop, and gradually began just slowly and with very low pressure chipping away. I realized after a while that I could probably push the drill harder, and eventually went from a ~48 second drill time, to about 6 seconds. There are a few holes where the clamps didn't hold quite enough, and the bars got walked on a little, but it wasn't bad. I started off at about 200rpm, then ultimately ended up about 640/720.

I was able to get a handful of holes drilled with no clamps, the aluminum is soft enough that the bits just chomp right through it. Now, if I really wanted to, I could go at it with my deburring tool, or a really big countersink bit. It's smooth enough now, doesn't really need much improvement.

I bought a 40" Cali Raised lightbar and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to mount it. Has anyone mounted a Cali Raised light bar before. How do I mount it?

    Thanks.

The rack is awesome and once it came together is super sturdy! However I was really disappointed at the quality of the hardware included with the rack, for the price I think premium hardware should be included. I actually had a bit of drama with my install, I snapped the bolt included with the "tool" in a riv-nut before it was even starting to compress! After inspecting the bolt I saw that it was just a cheap cast bolt probably made of "chinesium"... so really unable to handle the stress of compressing those riv-nuts. Luckily for me there happened to be an extra riv-nut so I just started over with grade 8 bolts procured from the hardware store.

Just a little thing that could make a big difference... Also just a heads up to all the access cab buyers go grab some higher quality hardware before installing the riv-nuts.

    Shop around!

We send everything to the platers (and anodizers) after we machine it. It's silly that they couldn't or wouldn't do it that way for you.

And honestly, it's easier that way. You don't have to worry about scratching it before it gets plated.

Hi what did you use to mount your fatcat on there? I just picked one up at REI this weekend since they had a 20% off sale on all Yakima stuff. I'm assuming the one with the rubber adjustable strap made for the aero bars, but I might be wrong... Thoughts?

I recently purchased a full length Prinsu Rack for my 5th Gen 4runner and am getting ready to install... I noticed that you sent (3) sets of stand-offs, and 1 of the sets are shorter than the others (assuming this is to align with the curve of the roof).

My question is, where do the shortest stand offs mount to? (front, middle, or rear feet?).

    Thanks!

Do you still have enough clearance for your bindings? I have snowboards that I'll be putting up there, and wasn't sure about going that route. Also if you have some pictures, and may be links to the hardware, that would be really helpful, and we could put it in the Prinsu How to thread.

The shortest are for the front and rear. The taller ones go in the middle.
