I know just checking your math. 80/20 charges way to much for the tapping. I never have my stuff for work pre-tapped we just do it. Being that it's aluminum it's like butter anyway very easy to tap by hand with excellent results.

BTW How's my order looking? Will it be cut new design? Also since I'm doing my own rails would you mind sharing the cut length youre ordering normally.

I have yours on this next batch since I got your payment after I sent it the first. Yours will be the new rails. Cross bars are 47" long.

I thought about had tapping all the stuff for these but in the end it came down to lack of time. Plus the factory gets a good result every time.

I thought he had them made special for his racks.

Says it is, just doesn't explain what 80/20 is.

"80/20 Aluminum Extrusion Crossbars allow you to mount tie down hardware or bolt items to the rack with ease."

80% alloy and 20% tin? What is 80/20 to anyone reading the op?

Now I see it. Shouldn't be too hard to not over tighten them.

Very true about the threads, two things I will recommend as I work with this stuff all the time. Thread locker or lock washers then you have the security and don't have to try and over tighten.,

Second if you ever have an issue the typical tapping will allow one slight size up to be done, if using a tap of same size doesn't work to just clean it up.

Third overall these cross bars are cheap and with Zachary picking this design easily replaceable, KuDos for that.

Here are some pics. Sorry for the delay. It is essentially a thicker part of the shell on the roof. I have heard that under the carpet and bottom layer of the fiberglass there is a honeycomb type structure that adds extra strength. It is not as hard due to this formation and can be crushed with too much force but withstands the weight from the top better.

I have heard of the thule tracks being installed through this or to the side and have heard arguments for both ways and have heard from manufacturers that it is the right way both ways. Mine came installed in the thicker section and I haven't had any problems. Only have had it for about 5 months now though so time will tell.

Used is the best. I got mine off the local classifieds granted I didn't get quite as good of deal as you it was still much better than new.

I have a Leer 100xr and the inside top of it is thicker than the sides. Is that reinforcement and would you mount rails throug that part. Mine does not go as far to the sides of the cap as the snug top

I am guessing it is reinforcement. Like I said though. I have heard some say you shouldn't mount through the reinforced part and some say that you should. I don't know who is right.

I was told today by a rack installation company that you should not install in the thicker part but install in the thinner part and that you will get a more solid and stronger mount there.

Well if that's the case. Are the racks wide enough to mount that far apart?
