Keep in mind you can adjust the force felt by the roof rack by changing the angle of the dangle. Here's a diagram to help illustrate it.

So after trying to find a used one, I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered a new cap. An ARE CX evolve. I'll be adding a Top Rack to match my Cab Rack, and plan to put the RTT (128 lbs) on top of the ARE. I know it's been asked before, but has anyone had any long term issues with the shell cracking from the stress of the weight onthe cap? @geekhouse23 I know a few years ago you posted having no issues. Still the case or have you had some regrets / lessons learned?

I mounted up my new prinsu top rack last week, it's much more solid than I expected! It looks a lot better than the Yakima bars I had up there. The tracks on the topper couldn't have been mounted even a little bit wider or it wouldn't have fit, I got lucky.

How do you like your ARE? I just bit the bullet on Wednesday and ordered a CX Evolve.

Ohhh I just looked up the evolve, that looks nice with the rear door being frameless and molded to the tailgate. The quality on mine is really good for the most part, the place I got it did a pretty good job sealing up the corners of the bed so it doesn’t leak. The aluminum trim detail around the rear door kinda sucks but you don’t have to worry about that on yours! I wish I would’ve purchased one windoor in hindsight but I didn’t.

It was sliding around a bit no matter how hard I tightened the brackets so I pulled it off the summer before last and before I put it back on in the fall I used a beefier double gasket to seal it to the bed rails. Works great, doesn’t slide and doesn’t leak. The stuff the installer used was super thin foam that got crushed.

May be a dumb question, but from the angles of the photos, I can't tell if you have the long bed or short bed.. Which do you have?

never dumb questions, just dumb answers  yeah it can be hard to tell with the bad angle, but is indeed the long bed -- access cabs are only long bed, and if it's a double cab you can tell it's a longbed or not by looking in front of the rear wheels, longbeds have about a foot in front of the wheel, the shortbed basically ends at the wheel.

Yea, After spending way longer than I should have trying to make them look good on there I decided to remove them. I ultimately bought more, only this time in red, and sorta minimalized things a bit.

I got some 8" 1010 extrusions and some corner gussets to reinforce the front overhang of my top rack.
I know they started to ship some flat plates with new racks to prevent side to side movement, but this takes up less space and bolts to the cross bars and side rails.

bought a CX Revo up in Newburgh recently. Only had it on a short while but no leaks at all. It has a Yakima rack. You will like the ARE cap.
