Yea! I did see that but haven't had a chance to check them out yet. We have been busy loving and spoiling our new family member Phoenix.

Switched out the standard deflector for the 40” light bar cut out one. Going to out a 40” BD S8 (white) up there.

Also have an upTOP Overland AAP with scenepods/BD rock lights.

Ok, I went and checked out the handles. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! First, the price, well, it's less than I expected. Do I think it's a value??????? Do I wish they were 4 for the price of 2???? Even better, 6 for the price of 2?!

Pretty much Yes on all three accounts. I really like them, and immediately put them on my wish list. I'll just buy them 2 at a time. The lights, sweet AF to incorporate them like that but I have scene lights. So I can save some money and then do the fancy ones later.

    I like em!

I think I'm just not understanding the whole handle thing. Am I the only one that just grabs the rack? Should I not be doing that?

It was funny. At first I heard people saying they needed handles because the rack gets hot in the sun and it was uncomfortable, lol but who am I to judge. Honestly, I can definitely understand that the closer you live to the equator or how much sun your rack sits in.

I'm probably much heavier than most people and I can pull on mine without any issues. I have no worries in that regard.

For me though, and for a lot of people, we can't grab the rack due to the accessories we have attached to it. My awning on the drivers side pretty much only allows my finger tips in the gap. I have a little more room on the other side with the gun case but not much.

    FmeotMDwfg7oZHD64IyYN-quU_2Z_TQXfuA9wc8s_129dcd4ce0be554aeb54aea13142bca04c667720.jpg

Can I move the case farther away? Yes, but I am also vertically challenged and I like to be able to see down into it. To make matters worse, right now I have my HAM radio antenna attached to the back end of the rail, and it's the type that folds down so the last thing I need to do is go to grab the rail and pull on it and rip it off.

You can see how this would be a minor issue. "Why do you need to get up on that side" you ask? Well, that empty spot is where I intend to put my home made water port, and traction boards.

To be honest, I am so OCD that for the times I plan on standing on the sliders to do anything for an extended period of time, I plan on buying a cheap safety harness I can clip into eye hooks, or even the handles. I am not as coordinated as most people and need to master all the one handed tasks otherwise. Having both hands free would just be some icing on the cake.

    I am buying these too.

With a belt style harness clipped to the roof rack, I will be safe and efficient.

Making your own paracord handles is very inexpensive and simple. Although I'm not sure how long paracord lasts in harsh weather conditions.

Just some cheap stainless eye bolts off Amazon, and some paracord.

That actually makes sense. My rack is a glorified light mount so it's easy to grab onto. Thanks for the explanation!

Also those orange step things are pretty cool. I'm tall enough that the slider is enough height for me, but it's a nice solution!

My rack sits in the blazing Utah sun all summer, and if I need something up top, I grab the rack. :notsure:

I can sympathize on the stuff in the way though. 3 HAM antennas, an awning, and a plano case do get in the way sometimes.

Yea those are cool too. A lot of people have these. The paracord should last a long time depending on the amount of sun you vehicle sits in, and or harsh chemicals.

Right now mine is parked outside all day long (until I can clean my garage out and make room) and here in Maryland they use one of the harshest chemicals know for snow control on the roads, that being Brine.

I park my Lexus in the other side of garage and it doesn't come out until spring.

Here is a pic of my last Taco during the winter after washing it and driving to work in the morning. This is after 50 miles and 1 hour.

I had some really cool nylon webbing handles on the new Taco and they only lasted 6 months.

    JYDM3QP1qxSRcf3yY2SpKVAMLJ7YklOStalbqmrC_64e1295e69de7efe91fb74719394404ef2f1afd9.jpg

    upload_2021-1-5_11-49-45.jpg

They were perfect until they faded to a cute pink, and then became dry rot and came off in my hands trying to get up there one day.

I was going to go the paracord route but a little research started turning up reviews that paracord is also susceptible to the elements and will degrade over time. They're cheaper than metal handles but not checp enough to need to replace them occasionally. If I had the time to learn how to braid I could make them myself and save some money sure, but.......

A powder coated metal handle will pretty much last as long as the rack itself. At least that's how I am looking at it.

But don't let any of what I say influence your choices. Being different is what keeps this forum from becoming boring. Sharing ideas keeps it great! :fistbump:

UHF SATCOM, APRS, and a dual monitoring tri-band setup. Can send text, email, talk to the space station, and also run race support/side channel conversations all at the same time. :D

And a dune whip from time to time...

APRS is a dedicated Baofeng plugged into my tablet for APRSdroid and run to the short antenna on the front driver's corner.

Tri-band primary radio can be switched between either the X-wing for high angle work, or the 42" main antenna for general use.

Then usually have an additional handheld for out of truck work, usually race support related.
