Here are a couple shots of the low-pro toprac I built for my truck. Different mounting, basically as low as you can go. I am loving it now after about 3 weeks of use. You can see it is about 1.5" lower than my cabrac. Top of the rack is only about 1.5" off the top of the shell. With my pelican case up front the tent is only 2-3" higher than the pelican case in the front and then maybe 5" higher where the ladder is.

On the accessrack what are people using to water proof the bolts? My installer is concerned about water following the bolts down into the roof. Not the receiving nuts but the actual bolts that screw into the nuts he's afraid water will travel the length of the bolt and leak in the roof. We both thought that flooding w/ silicone would be ok but would wear out over time? Is that our best bet?

Also posted this in the GB thread, sorry for the spam, trying to get an answer to him ASAP. I was supposed to pick up my truck today but he wasn't happy with the bolt situation, wanted to do some research tonight.

I used waterproof silicone about an inch to an inch and a half up from the bottom of the bolt.

RTV silicone. Put it right on the holes and then thread the bolts down through. This will work the sealant down into the actual threads.

Pricing would be the same as a normal toprac, the difference is this one has to use the HD bars for the mounting so there wouldn't be a std crossbars option.

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
I did and regretted not doing every time I looked at it and wanted to touch up the little missing areas from usage. It's a PITA to touch it up while it's installed without getting paint on the truck. My advice is to get it PCd! It's a little extra money but worth every penny! Plus since Zach does so much volume he gets a great price on it vs you finding a local shop to do it.

    Just this guy's opinion though.

I can tell you what I have generally heard and what my opinion is. The raw aluminum holds up well to a variety of conditions. It doesn't look sexy but if you dont care about that it is a good way to save money. If you like the coated look but want to save some money get the raw aluminum and then have it professionally coated down the road when more funds come along. You don't have to worry about it rusting in the meantime. My first racks on my truck were bare aluminum for a couple of months before I painted them and then about 6 more before I powdercoated them.

Rattle can is difficult. I have tried a few different types of stuff and it really takes a good amount of prep to get it to stick to the aluminum well. Some people have been successful but more people complain about having to constantly do touch up.

Powdercoating is the best option so if you have the money and are thinking you will save some by using rattle can and getting a similar result I would advise to just spend the money and do powdercoating up front. Whether that is from me or a local coating shop I don't care.

Honestly, it's not the money. I'm liking the raw aluminum look. I have a white Tacoma and think it would look good. Industrial look I guess. How does it weather?

Honestly in the months I had the bare aluminum rack on and the few months I have had my bare aluminum skids I couldn't tell a difference. Now, a year or two later I can't say since I haven't witnessed that yet but I can't imagine too much of issue.

Another option is to have it powdercoated to match the raw aluminum color. That being said, one of my favorite combos is a white truck with the black powdercoated rack. It looks really nice.
