Considering on getting a Prinsu Roof rack. Does anyone have one? If so how does it affect the MPG? And is there any noise?

I'm wondering the same thing, so let's bump this thread.

I'm enjoying the quiet cabin on the 3rd gen and I'd like to know if I'm giving that up if I get a Prinsu Cabrack.

Also interested in the answer to this as I will be most likely adding a Prinsu Cabrack when I get my Taco

My prinsu was fairly quiet and certainly didn't effect mpgs until I plopped a brick (rtt) on it. No more road noise than my tires, and I don't have mud tires.

I've had my rack for over a year. Love it. little wind noise once you adjust the fairing. It's low enough where it hasn't affected my mileage.

No effect on mpg for me; however, I do get quite a bit of wind noise, but it doesn't bother me too much. I do have a moon roof which I think makes the wind noise more noticeable in the cab. I know some have lowered the front air dam which provides less wind noise, but I think that requires a modification (drill out a hole) as it doesn't line up with the screw holes at the lowest position. I have the noise reduction edge trim on mine (extra cost) which helped a little, but it wasn't very significant. I also have a cross bar at the very front of the rack which I heard makes wind noise worse, so I'm sure if the noise really bothers you, there are things you could do to lessen it with a little trial and error.

I installed Frontrunner Slimline II's. I thought they were better than Prinsu, and I liked the accessories. But my MPG went down 4-5mpg with just the bare rack. I pulled the racks off and instantly recovered the MPGs. Sounds like your Prinsus have no noticeable affect on MPG. That's good to know. Maybe time to switch out.

I'm going to have to check them out. I was getting 19.5-21 before. Now I'm getting 15.5-16.5. I took them off and now I'm back to 19.5-21

Interested in this as wel. Noise was the main reason why I went OEM as I don’t notice any noise when they are out to the side.

It will affect your MPG negatively, without question, but it may not be a big deal. Going from a smooth, rounded, aerodynamic roof shape to a bunch of bars and a wedge deflector will cost you, just maybe not enough to care about.

If you look at your mirrors and tail-lights, those little fins are to improve mpg. That’s how minutely detailed the aerodynamics have become on these trucks.

Haha what the hell? Did your prinsu come with a parachute? That sucks.

I have a voodoo bed rack, roof top tent on the rack, prinsu cab rack, a 3" lift and 265/75r16 duratracs all terrain tires. I float right around 18mpg.

I have the Frontrunners. Looking to switch to Prinsu. I can sell the Frontrunners for price of Prinsu.

I lost 2 MPG with the addition of a soft topper, but nothing changed with a rack over the topper and a tent on that rack. I also only lose around 1mpg with a canoe strapped on top of the tent.

Tacoma's are very odd with mileage.

I wonder how much of it has to do with the 4.0 vs 3.5. I have the 3.5. The 4.0 just feels like a stronger engine.

Had both. 2nd gen at, 2nd gen mt, and now a 3rd gen MT. I towwed and hauled with all of them. RPM range is different in the 3.5. and the 4.0 just makes more noise. Other than that no real difference to me. I do like the 3rd gen MT transmission way better than my 2nd gen for hauling real heavy and wheeling though.

You are the exception if you’re getting 18 mpg with all that. I have a similar setup and average 14-15 mpg.

Driving style or more city driving? No idea.

I drive with a few people set up like me and we all get around 17-18 mpg.
