    Hello,

Just purchased my prinsu xtra cab rack and with our 1st gen xtra cabs, it requires some measuring up and drilling and installing rivets.

Do any of you have any photos of examples on how they installed their Prinsu Rack on a 1st gen xtra cab?

    Thanks!

I remember being hesitant the first time I drilled into my truck, but now I don't care LOL. Just take your time, measure it out, and be sure it sits exactly where you want it prior to drilling. Once you get your rack's "feet" into position, "box" them in with masking tape so you know exactly where they should sit and mark the location for the holes with a sharpie.

Also, no need to remove the headliner as long as you don't do anything stupid like pushing too hard on the drill and blast through it. Like I said, just take your time.

I used the supplied rivnuts which offer quite a bit more reinforcement than nutserts. Without measuring, they looked like they would spread to a diameter of about an inch which beats out a nutsert of similar size by at least 50%. When I grab the grab handle, I can shake my truck without any flexing of the roof's sheet metal. Super scientific, I know...

I don't remember the exact limitations, but I want to say it's rated for 350lbs (I have a bad memory, so don't take that as gospel). I would never put that much gear on there, but I wouldn't hesitate to throw some pelican cases up there with medium weight items or even a spare tire. If you don't plan on hauling any gear, I'd just use a pool noodle with a ratchet strap through it to avoid any damage to the roof or surfboard. It'd be a lot cheaper than buying a rack but, if you want some flexibility with your storage options, you can't go wrong with a rack.

Spare tire may be a reach. But would probably hold fine but I personally wouldn’t risk it. I’ve had rotopax (full gas and water), Plano case with tools/gear & maxtrax on a lot of the time and it’s fine. I’m going to be swapping to a kayak rack here shortly tho

I don’t know what you’re running, but I can assure you that a 285/75R17 will fit just fine and is well within Uptop Overland’s rack’s abilities.

Oh it will fit, I just don’t trust our thin roof with that much weight is all
