So i’m working on the lighting portion of my truck, ordered a bunch of S2 pods to tinker with. I’m thinking of cutting into my Prinsu roof rack on each side and making cut outs for S2 pods. Anyone does this yet?

Thinking of making some sort of mount so they are adjustable (up, down, left, right).

At the same time I don’t want to reduce or destroy the structural integrity of the rack itself.

May be in over my head, but figured it’s worth a shot! image.jpg

One S2 near the 5 wholes in the front, another near the Prinsu logo. Want these to be recessed and not sticking out.

If you start punching holes in the sides you're going to compromise the strength of the rack.

Yeh that’s kinda what I figured, going to look into what I can do to reinforce it where I cut it. One of my problems is I will just start diving into a project without fully thinking it through ... so I already have all my lights, just need to figure a way to mount them, but so they don’t just stick out.

If they are scene/camping lights, consider S1 instead of S2. They will do the job and you will have less of a blinding effect if you look up. Very easy to mount S1s, just drill a small hole in your rack.

It is not a great idea to cut big holes to have a flush mount installation. The dynamic loads are no joke, you can crack your rack right half in two and that will be a bad day.

Got the roof rack taken off, and all my lights ordered.

Did some *ROUGH* cuts on the roof rack. Going to refine them. Added angle iron as support behind and to hang the light.

(Don’t judge the roughness of the cut)

Lights haven’t been tightened just yet, still need to work on it.

I can snap a photo but I have my S2's mounted on L brackets I got from Home depot. I jus thad to drill a new hole for where I wanted them. Much easier then cutting holes in the rack.

I wonder if using those slots like M-Lok on an AR-15 rail would work for mounting the lights. Something that basically fits in the slots and then pinches the rack from both sides instead of drilling and cutting it.

nice did not see that. so your just cutting out some to mount under it? not a bad Idea. I looked and remember that I have L brackets on one side where the awning was so it sat below it. the other side was just surface with carriage bolts.

:D I laughed at “Execution: TBD” because I feel the same way... and I am the one doing it!

I wanted them to sit flush with the roof rack.. I have gone on enough trails to know there are a lot of overhanging bushes and trees that like to catch on anything sticking out, so want to prevent extending the lights out.

For the rear facing lights I will also be using a carriage bolt!

Main reason for the cutting was to get them to sit low under the rack. I used the angle iron to ... ideally... support the roof rack (especially where I cut).

I’m no where near qualified to do what I am doing, but I am learning as I work on it!

I had a buddy do it, did it in his garage. Came out clean! He does it on the side as a hobby. It definitely requires SKILL!

Yea my buddy tried it himself and didn’t go so well. Makes me hesitant on doing it myself.
