I have recently moved my Yakima SkyBox on over to the truck, after selling my other vehicle. My hope was to get the box justified over to one side of the rack vs having it in the center. This would leave room on the other side for things like a gun case / fishing rod holder / kayak rack etc... when needed. When attempting to do so, I'm having a clearance issue between the quick release C clamp on the box, and the roof of the SnugTop camper shell, due to its curved nature. Attached are some pictures to show what I'm talking about.

Ive tried to slide the box over, once I get up on the rack as pictured, but the bottom of the C clamp still hits the roof of the shell, before I can get it justified over to either side. I'm wondering, has anybody come up with some type of solution, to replace these factory clamps with some fabricated ones to reduce the needed clearance? I'm thinking all I need is about another 1/4" of clearance or so, to make this goal of mine happen. Been googling for quite some time, and have yet to find anything.

I ended up taking apart the clamp that wouldn’t clear the bar / roof gap when open. Put the box where it needed to be and re installed the clamp. The only down fall to this is its up on the roof semi permanent, as it’s no longer a simple quick release. But... atleast I now have space for other things on the rack

Hey El Chivo Norteño! I had a quick question. I found a used Yakima skybox 16 for a good price and I was wondering if you know if this fits the prinsu roof rack? Will I have any clearance issues or will the clams close normally?

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks

I don’t think your going to have any issues. It might take some adjustments like I described in my scenario, where I needed to maximize the rack space to accommodate a fly rod holder, but it was fairly easy to accomplish.

I’ve got a snugtop shell and a full prinsu rack. If I don’t need to make space for the fly rod rack, the cargo box will easily fit when centered on the rack, and still make use of the quick releases to remove.
