In some instances, it'd be just as useful to set up a thread with the list of people you wish to exclude from the thread

I like the idea. For many reasons. Not to be an ass to certain people but just to keep things a little more organized. Hopefully this works out

Not to sound gay here but unicorns kick ass!

No but really, I don't know if that was the intent but I would be all for a private section.

I get the advantages of having them for Group Buys, meetups and the like, but it sounds like people are trying to put up walls to keep out dissenting opinions.

Whatever, just seems like some people want to form their own little club and use TacomaWorld as the de facto communications medium, as opposed to email, Twitter, FaceySpace, Google+, carrier pigeon, letter, the phone....

    Carry on.

No worries. I'm sure your intent is honorable, just pulling the veil back a little.

It won't bother me one way or the other. I think it's a good idea for some things, like I mentioned before.

    And so it is...

Comments from quoted text forward are moot but & IMHO, especially as it is already known throughout the forum, the risk of alienating potentially the majority of the members (even if they may be a minority of the total post count) exist. I see it as clique promoting which will only serve to dilute the overall quality of TacomaWorld. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the majority reduced in size and not by ratio but, actual count if this takes place.

    neglect, mostly.
yall are over thinking it. private threads will not bring down the friendship and bla bla of TW. it would just be useful if sometimes an OP could make a private thread to organize different things with certain people. for example, look at this Christmas Exchange business. I bet susan, joe and who ever else could be much more efficient in their communication if they had a thread to nest everything in instead of PM'ing everything back and forth. . . that's just the first example that popped in my head.

i would bet 95% of the threads made after bob makes private threads available would still indeed be totally open to all members. i've often thought about this idea and am glad john suggested it.
