New to Tacoma's....Trying to decide to either go with Pro Series or just get stripped down 4x4 and build up my own....uncertain as to how capable the Pro Series really is. Don't want to pay for bling and marketing ploys. Likewise I don't want to negate any factory warranty by building my own. Thoughts from the Tacoma gurus? Thanks

What he said. The suspension is nice on the pro but their are way better systems out there to choose from. Imo Pros are more for the, " hey I have a pro, look at me!" Both the OR and Pro are capable of anything. Hell Toyota put the same tires on both trucks...

Take the $4k - $5k (+??) that you'll save between a OR and Pro and buy you some King coilovers, Total Chaos UCA's and better tires/wheels.... Long story short, way better aftermarket parts than what the Pro comes stock with.

I looked at a pro briefly but the dealerships in my area all marked up the pros. So 48K vs 38k for an OR is easy. Buy an OR. Then you can do what you want for hopefully less. Unless you REALLY want a hood scoop. Good luck!

I like the leather interior or softec or whatever they are using. It would be nicer for cleanup. The suspension could be replaced which I imagine most BROs do anyway with a PRO, cause a stock PRO BRO just a low budget BRO.

The 4wd system is the same, I'd get an OR, and buy a kit like the new Bilstien 8150 (they have internal bumpstops and limiters). or an IVD kit. Either way, you have to modify your vehicle to put on bigger tires, so your spending the same aftermarket money.

I like the PRO grill, I hate my OR.

But yeah, take the markup money and put it to better use.

You can build as capable as a truck for less easily....will it be as cool? No. Will it have the resale value that a pro will? No. It's all about personal preference. The few extra bucks for black heated leather interior and cement paint was well worth it to me.

Someone priced out the parts to upgrade the OR to match the PRO and it is way cheaper to just get the PRO. You can probably find the thread with the search function.

If you plan to mod it anyway, get the OR and mod to your hearts desire.

But it sounds like you'll want to go out of state to get a non-marked up price, if you go with the PRO.

I love mine. I did upgrade speakers right away. I will do upgraded supsension/lift down the road....after 3+ years so this worked for me.

As far as capable, depends on what you're doing. A 4 banger prerunner can show up a mall crawler in my opinion.

The pro, to me, has amazing value. If it wasn't for the fact that I want to use the shit outta my truck and will not be keeping it stock, I would have got one. I was close to pulling the trigger. It was that or a legendary SR(5) I4 5 speed with an iron block and an 8.75 rear end. I needed manual, and I will not drive a 4 door. So it was the SR(5). But there's a part of me that still wants the pro and never let it touch dirt. How cool would it be to see a toyota pickup Mohave edition in mint condition today? Would be just as cool to be an 80 year old man and hit the garage door and cruise out in a Tacoma pro 50 years from now. But I've realized anything but the exact 3rd gen I have now would have not given me the fanboy boner I have now.

And I can't afford TWO new ones without selling my first gen. Not gonna happen.

    What's your long term intent?

A Pro will cost more, but provided you don't rag it out, will hold it's value way better. You don't have to pay markup either. Shop out of state, I got mine for about $1k under sticker after I parted out most of the dealer mods on it.

The investments you'll make on an OR will likely not be recouped at resale.

If your sure your gonna drive it to the wheels come off, agree though, OR built is the way to go.
