If you need to tow look else where. These guys know what they are talking about, Tacoma’s are good looking, but no good for towing, why kill a nice looking truck

The original Ecoboosts were direct injection only which subjected them to carbon build up. The newer ones have both port and direct injection to reduce that. I had a 2015 and loved it. Traded it for a VW Passat because I needed better fuel mileage at time driving into downtown Portland every day. Traded that for the Tacoma last August.

Do you tow with yours? I'm sure a Taco would have no problem with a couple of jetskis or my four wheelers. The enclosed trailer with cargo might hit 3000lbs. I'm convinced that numbers on stickers aren't always what they're cracked up to be. My 07 Tundra was approximately same power/torque as my 14 Titan. The Tundra did everything better than the Titan does. But both, in my opinion are overkill for what I tow. I don't want something that struggles, however, I don't need 400 hp and seating for 8 either. I'm glad I posted this question here to hear both sides. I know most truck owners are very defensive of what their vehicle is capable of. But if a guy says he can tow 3000lbs in the real world with no issues he's probably telling the truth. I'll know by Tuesday when I hook up my trailer to a demo Taco if it's capable or not.

My brother in law has a 2018. Things puking some ugly exhaust. I'm leery of these things.

I tow 2500 regularly without issue. 11x7ft single axle with a ranger and giant beer cooler. It pulls fine but mpg suffers.

I purchased the 4 cyl. And I did add a hitch myself. I have yet to hook anything up. I have a small utility trailer that I put wood on from Home Depot etc. I also keep the trailer for my quad if it ever needs service. So I can not tell you what the truck will haul. You are doing the right thing here by checking it out before you buy. My reason I bought my Tacoma is looks alone. There is no better looking truck on the road in my opinion. I thought I was going to buy a Silverado but it just felt cheap to me and did not have the looks of Tacoma. They are just beautiful looking trucks hands down.

I like my Ford's but I'm a little leery on the EB. I know many have them with no issues but I had a Taurus SHO that had some heating issues and used coolant at 70k miles. I traded it before I could figure out the issue but my buddy had a fusion and the head gasket let go at 40k with the same symptoms as my car, both were EB engines. I'm keeping my truck for the long haul and prefer NA engines for reliability.

I use my 2018 to tow with.
I'm looking at buying a 14ft echo atv trailer to haul a grizzly, kodiak, rancher and a brute force.

You won’t have any issue with 3,000 lbs unless that’s a large enclosed trailer that creates a lot of drag. Would a full size tow better? Sure, but the Taco is perfectly capable of safely towing 3,000 lbs as long as you understand it’s just as much about the driver as it is the truck, safe driving and experience are the most important part of towing.
As for TRD (Sport or Off Road) vs Pro, they will all tow the same if all equipped with the factory tow package.

The 6x14 is an enclosed v-nose. So, ya it'll always be a sail, but it's very rarely going farther than 15 miles. As far as towing, I've been pulling trailers for 20 years. I might be in the minority, but I'm sick of driving a full-size pickup. Comfortable, yes, maneuverable no, 3 hours to detail yes.

Make sure you get an extended or overnight test drive to see if you like the Tacoma, most complaints on here about lack of power and erratic shifting behavior would be eliminated if doing a thorough test drive.

Correct, people think these trucks will drive like the family car, far from it
Go drive a Silverado, then go test drive the Tacoma. That is why I have a Tacoma.

I would most likely never test drive a GM or a Ford, or a Dodge. Relax everyone. That is just my opinion.

At best, they'll probably let me tow my trailer for a few miles. Ideally it would be for a long haul, but I've towed long enough I should have a pretty good concept of how it feels. However, I can tell you, my Titan is 7 model years newer than my Tundra was, and it is no Tundra.

    DO IT!

I haven't towed with my V6 Taco yet, but I towed with my 4cyl CRV well over it's weight limit and never had any issues!

I find mine a pleasure to tow with in the weight ranges you are dealing with (I've even towed 4000+lb. Setup without issues)

    Caveats:
    1. I have a manual-much better with this engine for towing I expect
    2. I don't care about gas mileage when towing

I went from a 2007 Titan to 2019 Tacoma. I also tow jet skis, a side by side, and snowmobiles. If I were towing more than the 5 miles to the lake, I would be looking elsewhere. The lack of low end power and horrible tow mileage make it less than fun (compared to my Titan). Where it shines is unloaded. Plenty of power for me, as well as great gas mileage.

if you're going to tow with a Taco get a manual, mine tows 3000 lbs (trailer & cargo) like it's not even there. IMO automatic's 6-8 & 10 speeds have no place for towing.

Tacomas whether its a TRD Offroad, sport, pro or SR5 can do easy towing, but if you are towing every single day just get an F150. Stay away from chevy like the plague
