Has anyone got any GOOD information about performing an LS swap to a 1999 Tacoma SR5 2WD?

I already know that about nothing will be swap capable. But it’s a simple truck that I got for cheap and I would like to find some good information to do the swap.

I am working on building a 6.1 (bored 6.0) and would like to run a 4L80e transmission so I can beat on it at the track and not worry about being able to make it home at the end of the day.

I also plan to swap the rear end over to an Explorer disc rear 8.8 for durability. Lastly the driveshaft will be either a steel 3.5 or aluminum 4” with heavy duty 1350 u-joints at both ends.

The truck is something I would like to take to something like Power Tour or a Cleetus and Cars event. Show it off a little bit, enter a burnout contest or make a couple passes down the track. It will be motor only. I would like to have a turbo on it but that is so far outside my budget for a while, it may as well be in a whole other universe!!

I know one guy did a whole series on YouTube of swapping a later model Tacoma over, but can’t remember the name or what year truck it was. But I am sure some of the stuff applies.
But he was sponsored by Summit and I am not!! So mine won’t be as fancy as his is! Plus he started with a whole lot nicer truck.

Here is the YouTube channel you're looking for.

    https://www.youtube.com/user/turbomiragedude

He referenced another YouTube channel that I think he said he got a lot of his info from, so you may find more resources at that channel. I don't remember the name, but I know Tom mentioned it so you should find it if you watch his vids.

A bit of a tangent, but Tom is local and I've had the privilege of meeting him a few times. He's a super nice guy and has quite a few really cool projects on his channel. I've not gotten the chance to see the Tacoma yet though. He hasn't brought it to Cars & Coffee yet that I've seen. Hopefully he'll bring it to one this year.

    Thanks.
I am planning to go into town and download the whole Tacoma swap series so I can watch them and try to find tips and tricks.

    side note
I got the drivers seat out to vacuum the carpet from the previous owners neglect. I was not aware that rubber bands could melt and try to blend into carpet!!

but I am working on cleaning some, plus going to do some measuring for the sub box I want to build for 2 15’s or 2 18’s.

not really enough room depth wise for 18’s. So I will probably stick with 15’s.

and yeah, it’s NASTY under that seat!!

besides, I still have to take out the passenger seat and clean under it also!!

You gonna have to wait til tomorrow. She had the truck for 10 years as a newspaper route truck.
