I was cleaning the maf with a q tip, I know.. now that I think about it, it was pretty much when my car starter running weird. Is there any way to check if the maf is working, or do I need to put a new one in and see for myself?

Buy some maf sensor cleaner at autozone, see if that helps. If not then prolly a new maf. The maf shouldn't be touched whatsoever, with anything. Chances are you probably broke a wire or got it dirtywhich would require a new one.
