as the title says im going to start building my own bumper monday, we will see how it goes, im keeping my old bumper and building a mock up winch out of a 6x6, this will be replaced with another smitty built. if i like the looks and functionality it will stay if not it will get sold.

This is probably going to take a few weeks, im going to be doing this with only a welder, 4.5 inch grinder, and saws all. I have done several bumpers before all with good luck, however this will be a much more in depth build.

It's going to be one piece and most will be built with 1/8th inch mild steel. the mounts and some other parts will be a little thicker. im going for a look similar to all-pro but with a lot more strength.

Starting with the mounts and it will see a lot of tough winch work so how are the other more mainstream winch bumpers being attached? ill keep you updated with pictures and what not. wish me luck.

x2 , take your time I'm kinda in the same boat, but more because I despise the stock bumper on my 1st gen

I'm going to design 2, the first one is actually utilizing whats left of the stock one I've already mutilated so now I have to do something with it ...:D

& the second one will be alot different, but simple in design, using either 2"x4" or 2"x6" 1/8" channel, mitered w/ winch deck & integrate some tube for a light bar... I wish us both luck but since you've already had success .. more luck for me than you !!...:D j/k

I trimmed the shit out of the stocker as you can see & getting it ready to go to my buddys , he has the tubing bender, welder etc; going to integrate some tubing for a pre runner type lightbar /brush guard using whats left of stock bumper I haven't seen anyone do this yet so we'll see..

got started and only one day late. haha.
    how she started today off
    [IMG]
with the brush guard removed, driving the truck without seeing it at the front is really weird. and i think that it looks really good without it, with it gone it really brings to the front the grill.

    Grill and bumper cover gone.

are the 6 bolts 3 of which held the aluminum crumple zone thing going to be sufficient? I think so but what about other aftermarket bumpers? thanks.

The All-Pro plate bumper uses those 6 bolts plus two located at the bottom of the bumper mounted to the frame.

thats 6 per side, im useing the original 3 plus one into the body mount plus one into the place with that little slide in square thing, any idea what that thing is? im considering removing it and just using a grade 8 nut and bolt. also there is one more bolt right below the original 3 for a total of 6 per side.
