Are DCLBs too long for hard core rock crawling type of offroading?
Most offroading pictures I see are DCSBs or access cabs.
I felt that it's relatively rare to see DCLBs out for serious offroading.

It's only like a foot longer wheelbase, right?

No. Offroading is a vast spectrum of activities, conditions, and driving styles. The longer wheelbase obviously limits it for some obstacles, such as very sharp switchbacks and greater potential for high centering or getting stuck in deep ditch crossings.

EDIT: Hey OP, no fair, you edited the OP after I posted. Now my post doens't makes sense. I unfriend you.

It's all in what you get used to. Years ago, I did all my off roading in a full size Ford F250 long bed, extended cab. It was a hot rod in the mud with the 44" tires, super low gearing, and a 23 year old lunatic behind the wheel. :O

I've had old Jeeps (CJ5, CJ7) Nothing quite like short and no body overhang!

One of my alltime favorites was a '77 Ford Bronco I owned late '70's/early '80's.

I had one BADASS '84 Toyota, long bed, regular cab.

    Now I like my DCSB.

They ALL had their strengths and weakness'. All things equal, I like short chassis, not too jacked up, properly geared, and with very good ON road manners to go with a decent off road ability. You can find all that in a variety of forms.

I see you are in Vancouver, and your model is listed as a Lexus Gx460. Are you looking to buy? Since we are almost neighbors, most the trails I run in the PNW have areas where you have to navigate in very tight trees. The non-LB trucks have a tighter turning circle at 40ft, compared to the LB 44ft. The shorter body also offers a clear advantage negotiating tight trails. Something to consider if you are looking to get into taking your truck off road in similar local wheeling areas. Also the LB is not available on the off-road model.

Other than the extended length of the truck I believe you couldn't get ATRAC in a long bed (until the 16's come out). I'm sure someone correct me if I'm wrong

Right, because ATRAC only came in the off road which was not offered with a long bed.

Oops, I just haven't updated my car. I do have a DCLB TRD sport.
I was just curious if DCLB is a poor offroad performer because of the long body length/wheel base..

I had a 2013 JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and a 2014 JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited.

Neither were "that much" longer than the 2 dr. However that little bit is huge off road. The break over angle off road is significant. I've spent a lot of time in snow, dunes, rocks, and on obstacles digging, using a pull-pal, and jacking tires up to put rocks etc under to creat clearance because I was completely stuck. Where as a factory 2 dr Rubicon would just sort of meander right over the same obstacle.

I like the long beds for their capacity but that "little bit" is a lot off road. You'll always need more lift and bigger tires to get to the same break over of a shorter wheelbase. Than there's the 90 point turns to consider on tight switchbacks and shelf roads. If people say those things don't matter, it's unlikely that they've dealt with those situations.

The AC had the same wheelbase as the DCSB; it had a longer bed. If the Off Road, Pro, or Baja had been available as a short bed and access cab, I'm sure it'd be a hit with people who don't have dogs and kids.

    See Build Page
Actually, the DCLB is superior in all ways to the DCSB.

For Example:When crossing ditches the DCSB crawls over better. However, the DCLB lays across them and creates a bridge. This is useful for other off-roaders to cross more simply.

    That was humor... thank you.

Anyhow, I bought the DCLB for the long bed. I wanted a full sized bed capacity more than I wanted to rock crawl. Did I still lift my truck? Yes. Am I still waiting for skid plates to get powder coated? Yes. The shorter wheel base is better for crawling over stuff for sure. But it all comes down to what you'll be doing with it.

You bought the truck for obvious 'primary' purposes in life.

    Just go offroad...
The best thing to do is find a local offroad club. Go offroad with folks who are experienced doing it. Never go offroad alone. Go prepared....
Ultimately, you've gotta 'KNOW' your vehicle. KNOW its limitations in terms of capabilities, size, length, etc. KNOW your driving capabilities.
KNOW how to read the terrain and pre-plan how you'll approach the terrain. KNOW when to stop and admit you need help (spotter) to get thru the tight & hard stuff.

Damn OP changed his post. Why would you want an LB for hard core rock crawling?

Here's the deal : DCLB FTMFW. The bed is longer so it can haul more stuff than an SB.

Want hardcore rock crawling, get a late 80s pickup and SAS and bob it.

DCSB is just a confused, useless POS.

I had my tear ducts cauterized shut so I don't accidentally cry on my frame and destroy it.
